Book two in The Wilkins standalone companion novel series. Contains adult language and content. Entrepreneur Zachary Wilkins doesn’t see himself as a brother to his younger cousins, like they have considered him to be. He feels indebted to his aunt and uncle for adopting him and officially making him a member of their family. When he encounters Shaina Hayes, he wants her just as much as she wants him. Seeing her, for a second time, at his cousin, Aaron’s wedding, stirs emotions in him that he can’t shake and further fuels his desire for her.
Shaina Hayes has had two rules since moving into Bloomfield Township, Ohio; work hard and keep to herself. One night, however, she goes out to celebrate her new job. A tall, handsome man catches her eye and the attraction between them unravels into an explosive night of passion. A night that she relives in her mind and vows to herself to never repeat again.

When I saw that this was book two I looked up the first book in the series, Love on Hold, and when I saw that it was free on Amazon I just had to get it and read it first. Thank goodness I did! These stories are linked through the family and friends who surround the main couples and you’d have to start at the beginning as not to miss out.
Shaina was always more of a party girl, but when she was given the opportunity to better herself through her job she settled down a lot and put her focus on doing well and not letting down the boss she had grown to greatly respect. When a promotion gives her something to celebrate though, she lets her hair down and gives her inner party girl a night of fun… A stranger she can’t look away from and a night of intensely satisfying celebration. She definitely knew what she wanted!
Zachary’s mind is usually on business, he doesn’t go anywhere near anything that could involve emotions. His childhood broke his emotional ties and although he has a great family who loves him his parent’s will always haunt him. So when a sexy woman offers him one night of ravishment he’s all aboard. It’s how he feels afterward that changes everything for him.
Two people who don’t want attachments, one willing to give into desire basically forcing the other to not ignore it either, equals out into a sweet, caring, and ultimately passionate relationship. In An Unexpected Encounter family ties will consume, walls will crash down, and passion will reign.
The storyline is good, the characters are well written, but the editing is incredibly bad. There are extra words where there shouldn’t be any, missing words that you have to fill in in your head, and an occasional mix-up between character names.
My Favorite Moment: Hello gym! It’s a really good thing there aren’t cameras in the locker rooms.

Zachary headed toward his own office a short while after he’d assured his clients that they’d receive their contracts this evening and that he’d be available tonight. He slowed his pace down when he eyed Shaina at his desk in a white lab coat. She wore a plastic cover on her head and was absorbed in her work. While her expression was serious, Zachary saw how content she was and it made him feel good. She looked right at home in his bare office. She hovered over his desk with some tools and parts on one side, in neat rows. Since Zachary didn’t spend a lot of time in his office when he did come to Bloomfield Township, he hadn’t thought about personalizing the room.
Shaina raised her head forward and then backward a moment later. Then she swung her gaze at him, and Zachary looked at the surprise in the furrow of her eyebrows. She relaxed her face, her eyes flicking back to the hard drive in front of her. He entered his office and inhaled an almost undetectable scent of jasmine. He’d smelled traces of jasmine when he was the office side of her studio apartment the morning after they’d had sex. He snapped his fingers, recalling that when he’d picked up Shaina’s photo of her with her three nieces, it smelled like that particular plant.
“I didn’t snap my fingers at you,” Zachary told Shaina as soon as he realized that she might have thought that he’d snapped his fingers to get her attention.
“I wouldn’t have responded to you had that been your way of addressing me anyway,” Shaina informed him as she delicately removed a small part from the hard drive. “Why are you here?”
Smirking, Zachary stepped much closer to her and caught the slight shudder that caused her shoulders to shift as she pressed her pretty, full lips together. “Because I can be in my office anytime I want and I am checking on your progress.”
With a snicker, Shaina pointedly said, “I told Wyatt that I am not to be disturbed. I think you’re checking me out. As long as I am working on repairing your hard drive to factory conditions, this is my clean room.”
Zachary’s eyes glinted. “This will be your clean room and my office,” he told her as he placed his hand on the back of her chair and lowered his upper body, then whispered in her ear, “and I’ll be checking you out while I sit by the door so that I don’t distract you.” He straightened and then crossed the room.
“I said I didn’t want any disturbances,” Shaina argued as she carefully slid a piece into the hard drive.
“You don’t distract me. Besides there’s no chair in here for you to sit your butt on.”
Zachary turned half of his lean, muscular body in her direction, and a smug expression crept over his face as he watched her eyes skim his body appreciatively. “You can look at me like that whenever you’d like. It softens the harshness of your verbal blows.” He sank down to the floor, stretching his long legs in front of him. “Getting to watch you at work beats resting my ass on the comfiest of chairs.”
