Review of Worth the Fall (The McKinney Brothers #1) by Claudia Connor

Worth the Fall

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Military Romance

Hotness Factor: Nothing sexier than a man who loves kids!

Book Length (Est.):  323 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

They meet on a beach. . . . Abby Davis isn’t wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when she’s busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isn’t looking for fun—he’s a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions . . . and fallen brothers.

They only have a week. . . . Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Matt’s been sidelined by a combat injury, and haunted by the best friend he lost and the promise he made: to remain a SEAL—focused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what he’s always wanted: a family.

But a week is all it takes. . . . Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.

Matt McKinney is a Navy Seal that has been tricked into a vacation by his cousin. While at the beach he meets an incredible family that definitely looks like they could use an extra hand. Matt is instantly drawn to the Davis family along with their beautiful pregnant mother Abby.

Abby Davis has four incredible children and one on the way. Losing her husband six months ago has proved to be a struggle when taking care of the children. Abby is very independent and feels she does not need anyone to help her including the very hot man that has just walked up and started playing with her kids.

I really, really enjoyed reading this story so much that I told my best friend that she just had to read it for herself. Being a mother myself this story is incredible when you are talking about a man taking on children and treating them as his own. However, I do have to warn you that this book will make you laugh, cry (and I mean real tears) and fall in love with each of these characters, including the beautiful children that can really melt your heart.

Matt has a hard time deciding if he should quit the Seal team and settle down as a family. Abby has a hard time with Matt’s job as she knows what it feels like to lose someone or have them gone for long periods of time. Matt has to make a big decision before he loses the love of the perfect woman for him.

Happy Reading!

My Favorite Moments: I love how children do not quite have a filter on their thoughts and anything can be said at any time. I love what comes out of these kid’s mouths.

My Favorite Moment: I have to say my all-time favorite moment is when Abby gets her surprise visitors. This is very emotional and hits close to home for me.

Wow! What an emotional rollercoaster ride. What caught my attention was how involved the children were within the story. Jack and Gracie kept me laughing. Everything from the things they’d say like discussing Barbie nudity, to oops…chocolate face on white pants. All four were sweet, but those two stood out the most to me.

Abby was used to people leaving her. Even before her husband died, leaving her with four kids and one on the way, she was used to him not being there. Everyone always left. It was better to remember that. So why did this sexy man keep popping up to spend time with her and her kids? No matter how hard she tried, after one week her kids were attached to Matt. And if she were honest with herself…she kind of was too.

Matt was never the settle down type, but one football changed all of that. Even pregnant Abby was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen and her kids were perfect. For the first time ever he could see himself as a family man – building sandcastles with the kids, taking them for ice cream, getting drowned by water buckets at water parks – but he’d made a promise to someone else that he couldn’t break. Trying to keep a promise and keep the girl was impossible. He’d have to choose.

Worth the Fall is a beautifully written story about family and love. There were moments that made my heart swell and others that crumbled it completely.

My Favorite Laughable Moment: There are quite a few and all involving the children. But my absolute favorite had to be when Gracie asked Paul to dress her Barbie. Kids say the funniest things!

My Favorite Moment: The ending, the way he acknowledges the kids and the way they acknowledge him back. Sweetness!
