Blog Tour: Review of Breaking up with Barrett (The English Brothers #1) by Katy Regnery

Breaking Up With Barrett

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Hotness Factor: Goodness Rackets! Tennis has never been more enjoyable!

Book Length (Est.): 171 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Breaking Up with Barrett is the first of five books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome English brothers who are all on the look-out for love.

(Except Alex. He’s a womanizing manwhore. And maybe Stratton, because he’s wicked hot, but super awkward around girls.)

Barrett English, aka “the Shark,” is the fair-haired, first-born of the English brothers, and the CEO of the oldest, most prestigious investment banking firm in Philadelphia. He rules the boardroom with an iron fist, refusing to take no for an answer and always getting his way.

Emily Edwards, a first-year doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania, grew up in the gatehouse on the outskirts of Barrett’s childhood estate. The daughter of his family’s gardener and housekeeper, she was always looking through the window of privilege, but forced to remember her place at the very periphery of the kingdom.

When business partners suggest that a fiancee might soften Barrett’s image over business dinners, he approaches Emily for the “job” of fiancee. And while love wasn’t necessarily on Barrett’s radar, he begins to realize that Emily always has been. But will his take-no-prisoners boardroom tactics work on the heart of the woman he loves?

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from Bewitching Book Tours in exchange for an honest review*

Emily found herself with the perfect side job to give her the extra money she needed for school and rent…being Barrett’s fake fiancé at business functions. She’s always had a secret desire for the older English brother, but spending time accompanying him to functions has only proved he’s not interested in her.

“See you tomorrow! You’re welcome! By the way, I love you, you jerk!”

Barrett has loved Emily since he was eight. No one has held a candle to her and even the one time he thought he may have found someone…one look at her had him changing his mind. When an opportunity arose for him to be her secret knight in shining armor he jumped at the chance, anything to keep her safe and help her out.

“…he was a little ashamed that the thought that kept running through his mind was this: My super smart girl studies beer. If there was anything – anything – sexier than that, Barrett couldn’t possibly imagine what it was…”

When emotions run out of control and a kiss breaks the pain what else will happen before he can make things right? As Emily and Barrett spend more time together they realize there is no way to stop the emotions that that one kiss had begun.

“And if you want to know what’s real, here’s the most elemental truth I know: You’re the love of my life, Emily Edwards. And whatever it takes, I’ll do it. Just to be with you.”

Breaking up with Barrett is a sweet romance filled with surfacing emotions that had been long suppressed. You can’t help but cheer for Emily and fall in love with Barrett.

The ending came too fast and left me wanting more. I feel like there should be more to their story before it’s considered finished and hope maybe there will be a glimpse of them in the next book.

My Favorite Moment: Operation Poke the Shark! I loved how Emily changed the game and even more how Barrett began to play along.
