Review of Protecting Caroline (SEAL of Protection #1) by Susan Stoker

Protecting Caroline

A Romance Born Under Extreme Circumstances

Genre: Romantic Suspense, Military Romance

Book Length (Est.): 178 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

**Protecting Caroline is a stand-alone love story. It’s Book 1 in the SEAL of Protection Series.**

Matthew “Wolf” Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn’t have to do it very often. He’d been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.

When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.

Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

If you’re looking for a nice or sweet romance, this isn’t the book for you. Protecting Caroline is a story about the lengths a SEAL and his team will go through to protect what’s there’s and the woman strong enough to earn not only their love, but also their respect.

Caroline is just an average woman. Nothing about her stands out to anyone. She can literally disappear into a crowd. It’s kind of sad when she goes into detail how and when she met everyone the first time. But because of her skilled senses as a chemist she saves the day and foils a hijacking that will later put her in the crosshairs of an unknown enemy.

“I’m a card carrying, lab coat wearing, chemist geek,” Caroline answered laughing at herself.

Wolf didn’t think, but reached over and took her hand in his. “You’re not a geek sweetheart; you’re a scholar in a lab coat that does magic with her hands.”

Matthew (SEAL name Wolf) is ready to settle down. The one-nighter girls just don’t do it for him anymore, but he hasn’t even come close to finding the one yet. When him and two of his teammates fly commercial last minute they end up getting split up and put into tiny spaces – like the dreaded middle seat for him. When the lady next to him notices his discomfort and offers to switch seats with him, he accepts immediately, but wonders her angle. He’s not in the mood to be hit on.

“SEALS don’t leave SEALs behind. Ever.” It was their motto. The thing that every SEAL learned throughout Hell Week and BUD/S training. “Why do I feel like we’ve left a team member behind?”

Caroline may not have been on Matthew’s radar before, but after saving his life she definitely is now. The more time he spends with her the more he wants to spend. But he’s a SEAL and when he gets called away he’ll leave her unprotected and the enemy will have time to strike.

“There was silence. The three SEALs were actually stunned into silence. Jesus, this woman was braver and less self-serving than a lot of the people they worked with on a daily basis.”

Oh my goodness, the things she is put through in this book are horrible and you’ll find yourself cringing. I know I did. Hell, so did the SEALS and they’re used to seeing similar things. She is one strong leading lady. And I always love that!

“Jesus, just tell him sweetheart. God, just tell him what he wants to know.”

Saving Caroline has a suspense filled storyline that details lots of physical violence, loveable characters who’ll draw you in, and a romance that’ll have you cheering for Wolf and Ice. If you want suspense and action mixed with your romance then this is the book for you.

My Favorite Moment: Abe’s discussion with Wolf about Caroline was straightforward, completely honest, and simply beautiful. Thank goodness Abe called Wolf out on his shit!

My Favorite Aww Moment: When Dude, Benny, and Cookie went to officially meet Caroline for the first time it was completely emotional, but when Cookie gives her something special it touches your heart.
