When your past closes in, running isn’t always an option…
Phoenix, Inc., Book 1
The jobs Marcus Lowry works for at Phoenix, Inc. Investigations are quick and easy, and they don’t give him the nightmares his days as a CIA operative did. That is, until he gets involved in a case that grabs him by the throat and won’t let go.
Cole Jacobs left behind his old life as a rent boy to make a name for himself rebuilding high-end and vintage cars and bikes. But when a stalker threatens to kill him—and to hurt anyone who stands in his way—his past closes in on him, and he’s not sure where to turn.
The last thing Marcus wants to do is take on a charity case, and to say that he and Cole don’t see eye to eye at first is putting things mildly. But when the first attempt on Cole’s life nearly kills them both, Marcus realizes that Cole is in real danger, and Cole is forced to reveal everything. Almost everything. Because Cole’s deepest secrets could destroy them both.
Warning: Contains a secretive mechanic with a talent for spotting a diamond beneath a beat-up exterior; a hard-nosed investigator who isn’t so rusty he doesn’t recognize instant attraction when it hits him in the gut; and hot sex spiced with trust issues and danger.
*I received an ARC of this book free from NetGalley on behalf of Samhain Publishing in exchange for an honest review*
This book wasn’t only about one couple, but two. Marcus and Cole take the main focus, but there are also the glimpses of Law, Styx, and Paolo’s relationship. I liked it and hated it at the same time. I liked it because it was nice to find out about all the characters. I hated it because not only did it take the focus off of Marcus and Cole but it also had hotter sex scenes with the three of them. I wish they would have been in separate books so I could have enjoyed both on their own terms instead of being mingled together.
Cole’s past is coming back to haunt him and the bad part is that he doesn’t know from where the threats are coming from. Law offers to help him and instead of doing the job himself he puts Marcus on the case.
Marcus doesn’t trust easily and neither does Cole, which makes for an interesting beginning. But once those walls begin to fall sparks fly. We’re talking the Fourth of July kinds of sparks.
When Cole’s stalker strikes closer than expected Marcus, Law, Styx, and Paolo all join forces to keep him safe. And too many men all under one roof isn’t the easiest of places to be, but they’ll all have to figure it out and make it work.
I loved how things ended between Marcus and Cole. Talk about being a romantic…LOL.
As for Law, Styx, and Paolo…things go out with a bang. A very enjoyable bang.
My Favorite Moment: Sometimes things just need to be fought out to relieve the tension of the situation and Cole doesn’t hold back when it comes to Marcus.
