Her sweetest mistake . . .
Cool as a Chicago winter, private events planner Cara DeLuca is a model of self-control . . . until she meets the one temptation she can’t resist: Shane Doyle. The sexy, Irish pastry chef is too hot, too sure, too young, and after a crazy night in Vegas-her new husband. While at first Cara wants nothing more than a way out of her sham marriage to Shane, she soon finds that beneath his farm boy demeanor lies a man who can match her drive, both in and out of the bedroom. How can the wrong guy feel so deliciously right?
. . . tastes so, so good.
Shane has carefully structured his career and life around one goal: connecting with the family that doesn’t know he exists. Marrying a woman with more issues than a magazine stand wasn’t part of the plan, but melting Cara’s icy exterior is so worth the detour. Now as the annulment date nears and long-buried secrets are revealed, Shane will have to fight for the one thing guaranteeing the perfect life he craves . . . the current Mrs. Shane Doyle.
*I received an ARC of this book free from NetGalley on behalf of Forever (Grand Central Publishing) in exchange for an honest review*
I loved Jack in this book. His response when the mayor wanted a last minute reservation was hilarious. His over-the-top self-centered nature always adds a little spark into the story and you can’t help but love him because above all his faults he really is a sweetheart.
As for the two main characters, Cara and Shane, they too definitely know how to pull you into a story.
Cara is labeled Lemon Tart by her co-workers because they think she thinks she’s too good to eat with them, but that’s far from the truth. Her issues are personal and they stem back since childhood, but they’re her secrets and she holds on to them with a lock and key. But when the true Cara wants to have it all she does the unthinkable…fall for a guy in the matter of hours and then marry him. What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there.
Shane has his own secret and it’s quite the doozy. He only plans on working at the restaurant for a short time, but then he’ll fall for his wife and their families, which only complicates his emotions. He’ll go from not wanting anything to wanting everything, but once you’ve lied to everyone it’s difficult to come clean and risk losing it all.
The part I didn’t like was that the timeline overlaps the timeline in the first book. So instead of seeing the happy couple from Hot and Bothered we get glimpses from when they were experiencing the love/hate part of their friendship.
Overall, All Fired Up is a fun and sweet read with moments of unrestrained passion that’ll have you wanting to read faster and slower all at the same time.
My Favorite Laughable Moment: The following conversation between Cara and Shane had me laughing out loud…
“Did you just steal my scrunchie?”
“Just to put under my pillow. It’s not creepy or anything.”
My Second Favorite Laughable Moment: I loved it when Shane saw Vegas after he’d spent time with Cara. Pink!
