The Essence of Calm Before the Storm!
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Book Length (Est.): 437 Pages
As he enters the room looking like death personified, lifeless and haunting, she knows…blackness awaits.
Aaron Kavanagh is not to be trifled with. He’s powerful, commanding, fierce and currently homicidal. The only thing that matters in Kavanagh’s world is Shannon Kelly. She’s the beat of his heart (yes he has one) and the peace to the fury that constantly simmers within him. Without her, his life is empty and barren. Someone took what is his and he’ll stop at nothing to get her back.
Dylan Kellerman is lost. The love of his life has been ripped from him, leaving a tattered tortured shell of a man. On the brink of murderous insanity he must battle to find Shannon, even if she hates him. Dylan has betrayed her and he knows she won’t forgive his indiscretions. None of that matters now. All that matters is finding her. As long as she’s safe Dylan can continue to live a sad wasted existence without her by his side. Shannon brought Dylan back to life, without her in the world he’ll cease to exist.
Shannon Kelly is gone. Stolen from her home and loved ones, she must now fight. Fighting has never been an issue for her, but this is a new opponent that she isn’t prepared for…her past. When every reality she thought she knew is called into question, Shannon learns her life isn’t what she thought it was. With the promise of a future with Dylan stolen from her before her world implodes, Shannon must rely on the family that has protected her for the last thirteen years to come for her. She won’t win this fight on her own…Shannon is going to lose.
Please note that this novel is the continuation of Blackness Takes Over and cannot be read as a standalone.
*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Blackness Awaits picks up right where Blackness Takes Over left off. Shannon has been kidnapped and the guys are losing their shit over it.
“This day is a fucking nightmare come to life. Butch is free and I lose a little bit of Mia, I fight with Kel, make up with Kel, find out Kel essentially cheated on me and got a girl pregnant, I make out with Taylor, I get kidnapped, and now I’m in blackness…fucking nightmare.”
Shannon has the mental and physical skills to deal with being kidnapped, but it’s the torture part she’s not sure she’ll be able to survive. Having no leads and losing hope isn’t helping the wellbeing of Kel, Kavy, Sully, and Cally, they’re lost and starting to lose their grasps.
“You find her,” he orders me. “I’ll fuckin’ bury every one of the motherfuckers that had a hand in this.” Pop’s pissed. Pop’s scary pissed.
This book is intense. There’s kidnapping, torture, shootings, and lots of mental and physical injuries. It’s divided up into four parts, each one containing a little almost sub-story inside of the main overall plot. I love it!
Shannon will survive, but only to have everything she loves taken away from her. Thanks to her family and friends she’ll never stop fighting, but it will take its toll on her. The love this family has for each other is beyond anything anyone could ever imagine and I feel sorry for anyone who ever messes with them.
“The love of my life is back. I’m going to marry this girl and make her the mother of my children.”
And just when you think everything is starting to work out the way it should someone else has to step in and try to take it away, but this time every single family member (even distant cousins) and close friends are ready and willing to do whatever is necessary, sacrifice anything necessary, to protect the ones that means the most to them, Shannon and Johnny.
My Favorite Intense Moment: Shannon sure knows how to threaten someone.
“No? Funny I feel very confident with the information I just provided you,” I remark dismissively. “You’re unarmed, old, slow and much less intelligent than I am. You won’t leave this room. Your wife will be tortured and raped to death. Your daughter sold as a sex slave. Your son will be fed to pigs while he’s still clinging to life. Anything you love will feel my wrath until there is not a speck of you left on earth.”
My Favorite Laughable Moment: Dang, Kavy sure knows how to pick ’em. I just love how Shannon deals with it the psycho clinger chick.
“I’m gonna count to ten and then I’m gonna shoot you if you’re still in this house. One, two, three…” I’ve never seen a woman run in heels faster than that in my life.
