Sail away with his heart…
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Book Length (Est.): 256 Pages
Bidding on Brooks is the first of four books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome Winslow brothers who are all on the look-out for love.
(Except Preston. He’s been down that road before and only escaped by the skin of his teeth. And maybe Cameron, because he’s super hot, but too hot-headed to be decent boyfriend material…)
Railroaded into a bachelor auction by his sister, Jessica, Brooks Winslow asks his friend, Skye Sorenson, to bid on him to avoid the possibility of any romantic entanglements. Fiercely competitive and protective of those he cares for, Brooks was profoundly affected by the loss of his father at an early age. A witness to his mother’s terrible loneliness and his siblings’ grief, the ex-Olympian has never allowed himself to fall in love.
Skye Sorenson, the plucky mechanic at Sorenson Marina, where Brooks moors his three sailboats, is a credible sailor in her own right…and has quietly lusted after Brooks for years. But her longstanding friendship with Brooks has always made romance seem impossible.
When Skye agrees to bid on Brooks, the two cast off for a weeklong ocean adventure on Brooks’ sailboat, The Zephyr, where the last thing Skye expects to lose is her heart.
Return to the world created in the English Brothers books with this fresh foursome of scorching hot Winslow Brothers!
*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Brooks has one hell of an outlook on his future. I understand his reasoning behind it, but goodness gracious I don’t know how anyone could function in life with that expectation looming on the horizon. He is sweet, he loves his family, and he takes care of those he cares for, but outside of family he just doesn’t have the capability of loving anyone else or allowing them to love him.
“I’m not perfect, and frankly, I don’t want to be the man of your dreams.”
Skye is a hardworking, down to earth, sweet and lovable girl who lives in coveralls and baseball caps and works on boats in her father’s marina. She’s not the kind of girl who dresses up and attends high society function, but for her Brooks and a chance to skipper she’ll do just about anything.
“I had no idea you could look like this. Why don’t you ever, you know, dress up?”
“You mean…so people would see me as a girl?”
Stuck on a boat for a week is heaven to both Brooks and Skye, but being stuck on it together makes things a little more difficult. When a longtime friendship is challenged with more intense feelings both will fight against them for different reasons, but in the end they’ll both realize neither is perfect and fighting against their hearts is a losing battle.
“…he was past the point of deciding whether or not he should have feelings for Skye. He already had them.”
If you loved the English Brothers series then this is a must read. Katy Regnery does it again with another wonderful story. Bidding on Brooks is filled with sweetness, sadness, and a love that could no longer be denied.
