Breaking a Legend

Both Need A Little Saving

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance (MMA)

Book Length (Est.): 254 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.

Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.

Clare is running from a crazy ex. All she wants is to go to vet school and live her life without being in constant fear of when her ex may show up seeking to destroy her. She’s been careful, she’s made rules for herself, and everything was working okay until Rory Kavanagh walks into her life.

Rory was a MMA fighter who got injured, and yes he is also many other things, but to him being the man in the ring was all he knew himself as and that man was no more. He tried to drown out the pain from his injury and the pain of not knowing who he was anymore in alcohol, drugs, and women. It was a system he thought was working, until he met Clare Ivers.

Clare made Rory want to be a better person, she never asked him to change, but he changed to better himself for her. He wanted to be a man who deserved a woman like her. She, on the other hand, didn’t feel worthy of him and always wanted to know how he could want to be with someone like her.

Two broken people who become whole because of the love they have for each other.

Breaking A Legend is a sweet story of redemption, family, and finding yourself worthy of love. It does start a little slow, and the ongoing comparisons began to get old, but overall it will tug at your heartstrings and leave you with a smile.

My Favorite Moment: I’m not quite sure if my favorite part was the first date Rory set up for Clare or the next morning when they got woken up. Sweet to hilarious in a few page turns. Loved it!

Rory Kavanagh is a legend MMA fighter, a dominating alpha that can command a room with his presence. His last fight gets him a painful leg injury that takes him out of the cage forever. To dull his pain and feelings he turns to pills and booze. Having all his dreams shattered in the blink of an eye destroys him. Although he has a loving family with plenty of brothers it is hard to get back into a life without his career.

Clare Ivers is new to town. Running from her past and abusive ex-boyfriend she will stop at nothing to have a normal life. While not wanting her secret to get out about her past she starts taking self defense classes at the gym. Becoming friends with the Kavanagh family and volunteering at the shelter brings a little comfort to her new found life.

Rory is instantly attracted to Clare. Her no nonsense attitude makes Rory see that he just might be able to live a normal life after MMA. As the two get closer the chemistry gets more intense, and the secrets start to surface. One thing about it, once you become close to a Kavanagh you become family to them all. And they will stop at nothing to make sure you are safe.

This was a good read. I enjoyed the storyline and you can’t help but to fall in love with the characters. Coming from a tight family you sense a protectiveness that you can understand. When it comes to her ex-boyfriend I felt the build up would cause more of an intense scene but did not really get that. Overall it was a good read and I cant wait until Casey gets her story.

My Favorite  Moment: I loved how Rory explained the feeling of falling in love. Priceless!

My Favorite Moment: I agree that date night in the ring was awesome but it is a tie with the morning after.
