Shut Out

The truth will set your heart free..

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Book Length (Est.): 272 pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

The Bayard College hockey team isn’t where Jacob Flass thought he’d be a season ago. He was a rising star in the Canadian major junior league, cruising toward a spot on an NHL roster—until a single disastrous night on the town brought it all crashing down. Now he’s out of options, except for playing well, studying hard, and staying away from girls. He’s not supposed to be flirting with the hottest, sweetest chick he’s ever met. But how could he possibly stay away?

Skylar Lynwood knows that Jacob is out of her league. She’s just trying to go with the flow, which isn’t easy when six feet and four inches of total hockey hunkiness is making a play for her one moment, then giving her the cold shoulder the next. Skylar’s head tells her that this rugged athlete isn’t worth her time, but her body says something altogether different. Risking her heart for Jacob may be the craziest thing she’s ever done . . . but she won’t let him shut her out.

Jacob Flass has everything going for him. He is on top of his game working his way right into the NHL. That is until he is accused of a gang rape. When he could possibly lose everything over one mistaken night that he swears he did nothing wrong makes him rethink his decisions. With people coming together and making it possible for him to play for a college team this is his one last chance to make his dreams come true. The only thing he needs to do is make good grades and stay out of trouble.

Skylar Lynwood is in college struggling in her sister’s shadow. Taking classes to become a doctor dealing with issues from the previous year are starting to take its toll. Holding on to a very big secret comes with a lot of stress. All she wants to do is finish school and make her parents proud of her. When her eyes land on an athlete of total hotness her body comes to life but the deal he wants to make with her might leave her heart in jeopardy.

Jacob needs to keep the girls away from him so he can concentrate on staying out of trouble. Pretending to have a fake girlfriend is one way to go. As this relationship starts to blossom so do the feelings. Both are confused by what is really going on, secrets are coming out of the wood works and neither has time to deal with each other’s problems.

This was a very great read with some very sensitive subjects. Anytime you are reading about anything sensitive you seem to already have an opinion. I felt this was very well written.  Skylar and Jacob lean on each other for comfort but have to deal with their issues head on. Sometimes that means being alone and sometimes that means getting all of your feelings out in the open. I really enjoyed reading this book.
