Review of Putting Out Old Flames (Pineville #1) by Allyson Charles

Old Flames

Very Sweet Read

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Length (Est.): 234 pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

 TOO HOT TO HANDLE

Jane Willoughby has a temper. Sure, in her day job answering calls for 911, she can keep her head no matter what the emergency. But when her ex appears on her doorstep on her first sick day in years, expecting her to act happy he’s her co-chair for the annual fireman’s ball, she feels a little righteous wrath is justified.

Chance McGovern broke up with her with a greeting card, for crying out loud. He doesn’t get to just sprout some washboard abs and put on a uniform and behave like any other tasty firefighter.

Jane has no idea what’s happened to Chance in the last nine years—and no interest in finding out. Not even a teeny-tiny spark. No matter how hot he is. Or how well he remembers the little things that make her laugh, and cry, and spontaneously combust.

And she’s going to be working with him one-on-one. At least there’s a fireman on call . . .

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from Netgalley on behalf of Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review*

Chance McGovern moved to a quiet town with his son to keep him safe from his soon to be ex-wife and the trouble that comes with her. When he runs into his high school love he regrets the way that he broke up with her all those years ago. The one thing that he misses is the friendship that they had. He will do anything to get that back and prove to her that he should have never left her.

Jane Willoughby works in dispatch at the local police department. She never thought for one minute that her ex-boyfriend would be knocking on her door. Right now her goal is working on the charity event that is coming up and he just so happens to be the one person working with her.

Jane still holds a grudge against Chance for the way that he broke up with her nine years ago, I mean seriously a greeting card? But when she gets a look at those wash board abs and panty melting smile her body does not agree with her heart. Working so close makes them talk about the past but all Chance wants is a future with her. And he will do whatever it takes to make her realize he is a changed man.

This was a very sweet read. Jane has a hard time recovering from her broken heart but the new Chance is strong, all manly and a great father. Jane and her mother fall in love with his little boy instantly but not all can be forgiven so easily. However what he does between the sheets slowly chips away at the sour taste in her mouth for him. When danger starts to get a little too close to Josh and Jane receives the dispatch call she realizes she would do anything for Chance and Josh.

My Favorite Moment: Definitely the bowling alley.
