Book Length (Est.): 266 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

This hot-headed rookie needs discipline—on and off the field.

Pitcher Nico Agresta is desperate to live up to his family’s baseball legacy. Since he was a teenager crushing on his big brother’s teammate, he’s known he can’t act on his desires. His father’s made it clear there should be no queers on the field, but if Nico can win Rookie of the Year like his dad and brother did, maybe he can prove he’s worthy after all.

At 34, veteran catcher Jake Fitzgerald just wants to finish out his contract and retire. His team doesn’t have a prayer of making the playoffs, but who needs the stress? Jake lost his passion for the game—and life—after driving away the man he loved, and he swore he’d never risk his heart again.

Then he’s traded to a team that wants a vet behind the plate to tame their new star pitcher. Jake is shocked to find the gangly kid he once knew has grown into a gorgeous young man. But tightly wound Nico’s having trouble controlling his temper in his quest for perfection, and Jake needs to teach him patience and restraint on the mound.

When their push and pull explodes into the bedroom, Nico and Jake will both learn how much they’ll risk for love.

This gay sports romance features men who have been repressing their feelings far too long, light BDSM, an age difference, sweaty locker rooms, and a happy ending. 86,000 words.

Jennifer’s Review:

Damn! Reading the Signs is the perfect mix of emotion, storyline, and spank my ass hot sex!

There are a few references to pitcher/catcher jokes in here, but the fact that there are just shows how awesome the author is because come on how can there not be with Jake, the older and dominant catcher, and Nico, the rookie pitcher with a temper as the starring characters.

“…How big is that closet?”

Val snorted. “In professional male sports? Pretty frickin’ ginormous.”

Jake had lost his love of the game and thought everyday about early retirement, but then he gets traded and his entire life changes. He loses his ‘arrangement’, has to leave his house in exchange for a hotel room, and has to get to know an entire new team. Down and out would sum him up. That is until he has an angered moment of weakness that changes everything.

Nico has been in love with Jake since he was a teenager and they used to play catch in his backyard. He’d never tell anyone though, his family would freak if they found out he was gay. So he’s lived a life of trying to change his true feelings by drowning them in Jenny’s. When he finds out Jake has been traded to his team he’s ecstatic and yet worried he won’t be able to hide his longtime feelings.

“Wondered what it would feel like to kiss you.” He nosed in close, rubbing their cheeks together before brushing his lips over Jake’s jaw, dragging back behind his ear. “How rough your stubble would be.”

Still rigid, Jake trembled now as Nico held his hips. On a shaky exhalation, Jake whispered, “Did you touch yourself?”

With Jake having to work with Nico everyday, teaching him to calm his temper, sparks will fly. Each one will hold their untold desires in check in fear of rejection, that is until Jake’s temper flares and in the heat of the moment does something that will alter their relationship forever. Not that Nico would have it any other way.

They deal with everything from baseball to homophobic family members and they do it with an exploding grace.

My Favorite Laughable Moments… all include the daring yet tasteful pitcher/catcher comments. I think mostly because the way they are written in, being said by full supporters of Jake and Nico, makes them that much more funny.

“Wow. Okay. you’re hitting me with a lot tonight, but I can take it. You and Fitz.” He seemed to ponder it. “So… Are you still the pitcher?”

“Oh my God!” Valentina exclaimed. “I can’t believe you actually just said that. Out loud!” ~ I loved Val! She’s an awesome sister!
