“Choose me.”
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance (Dragons)
Length: 114 Pages
POV: Third Person
Description:
Maddie Thompson’s life just fell down a rabbit hole. Finding out she’s a dragon shifter was one thing — she never quite fit into the human world, and this new reality feels… strangely right. However, discovering the next step is to choose a mate, and if she chooses wrong she’ll die, is the other side of crazy. Especially when she already left a piece of her heart with someone who didn’t want it.
To say dragon enforcer Fallon Conleth was shocked when the Mating Council summoned him as a potential mate for a newly found dragon doesn’t quite cover it. A mate is rare and precious and many dragons never find theirs. Fallon isn’t sure he’s worthy of the honor, not when so many deserve it more. He’ll just go through the motions and return home alone… until he sees Maddie. The human woman he reluctantly let walk away.
Fallon already broke Maddie’s heart once, but if he can’t convince her that they’re meant to be, she’ll die… and he won’t be far behind.
Jennifer’s Review:
*I received this book free from the author.*
The Mate starts with Fallon arriving at the mating ceremony as a representative of the blue clan. He has no interest in finding a mate. He doesn’t want to be there. He just plans on going through the motions, that is until he sees her. Maddie. His Maddie.
“You slay me, luv.”
Maddie had thought she was being targeted with all the fires that had been happening around her, but then she saw the spark jump from her fingertips and then she knew it had been her causing them so she ran. She fled her home, her job, and Fallon. Finding out she was a dragon mate was just the icing on her overwhelming cake.
It was up to the dragon mate to choose the dragon she was drawn to. The one she wanted to be mated with. It was the council’s job to provide her a selection based on the color of her mark. If she chose right she became a dragon. If she chose wrong she’d parish in her potential mate’s dragon fire. No pressure or anything.
Maddie had assumed her mate was the one who discovered what she was and brought her to the council. Then Fallon walked in and she wasn’t so sure anymore.
Fallon knew he was Maddie’s mate, felt it to his core, but he had to convince her to choose him. And he’d even stoop to begging.
“Everything about you is made for me, and I’m made for you. I want to spend the rest of my remaining years making you happy.”
The Mate takes place on the edge of a political coup, adding to the urgency for Fallon to claim Maddie as his mate in order to keep her safe. It has suspense, heated passion, and the beginning of a storyline that I cannot wait to watch develop throughout the Fire’s Edge series.
