Review of Hot Mess (Players #1) by Jaine Diamond

“Unicorn…”

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Length: 610 Pages

POV: Alternating First Person

Description:

Fate. Destiny. Karma… She’s mine.

It all started with a broken heart.
And a breakup party.
Rock stars. Circus freaks. And a bachelorette party.
Too. Much. Booze.
An embarrassing tattoo.
And a twist of fate.

Her name was Danny.

I thought she was The One.
But then I lost her.
And I never thought I’d see her again.
Now… I’m a mess.
I’ve had my heart broken—more than once.
And my band’s broken up.
I’ve sworn to myself that I’ll never fall in love again.
Time to focus on new music and my new band.

As soon as I sober up from my latest breakup party…

But then there she is.
Standing in the rain, looking at me.
My dream girl.
My destiny…
Danny.
I missed my chance with her once.
Maybe this time… I’ll get it right.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author.*

Danica knew Ashley thought she was her sister. She’d heard all about her make out session with him years before. But she couldn’t help wishing he’d really been interested in her.

“Me: I have faith in you. You brought me six pennies. Just do your thing”

If you’ve read the Dirty series you know who Ash is . He’s wound his woes throughout the books…and his dirty little tattoo secret that everyone found out about. He acted like he didn’t know who Danny was, but he knew. And he’d been looking for her for four years. Until one day while completely drunk in the rain he’d found her. Although to his dismay it wasn’t her. It was her twin.

Sober Ashley likes Danica way better than her twin sister, he just doesn’t want to get his heart broke again so he plays it cool. But he’s a bad liar.

Danica will remodel his home and freshen up his heart.

“… Come on. Be a man and show me the pink flower between your legs.”

Hot Mess described Ashely perfectly and in this book we get to see the nitty gritty version we’ve been waiting for. All his issues laid bare for everyone to read.

“”… Did you know he’s into dudes?”

“No,” she said, looking right pissed off. “But why should I be surprised? You make straight men bend over.””

I have to say I was a little disappointed in this book. I’d had high hopes for Ash and was expecting it to be as good as the Dirty series, but this one wasn’t. Maybe it was that Ashley carried way more issues than I was expecting or maybe it was Danica’s too lenient attitude, but it wasn’t my favorite.

Don’t get me wrong it’s still a great read and I look forward to the next Players novel. Although it looks like Xander is going to be entirely too far over his head.
