“It’s not the bite you get, it’s the bite you give.”
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Vampires, BDSM
Length: 304 Pages
POV: Third Person Limited Omniscient
Drop dead gorgeous alive, Matt Brenner has never lacked for feminine attention. Undead, he’s even more potent. Immortality would be stellar if only he accepted his life as a vampire. Matt and fellow vamp Richard Hiatt created a BDSM empire catering to Vampire/Doms and willing donor/subs who trade sexual ecstasy for blood. The clubs have made Matt’s existence manageable, if uninspired.
Inspiration comes in the form of Catherine Temple.
Matt’s made it a rule not to get emotionally involved with human women, and he sticks to it. Cat is the woman who can entice him to break all the rules. When Matt is introduced to a controversial drug that allows him a human lifetime with Cat, it’s too exquisite to resist.
Powerful elements of the vampire nation are against it, and though Matt tries to protect Cat, love must be stronger than death.
*I received this book free from the author.*
Matt was ex-military turned police, until he was turned against his will into the vampire he remains today. He loved his humanity and no matter how much time passes his heart still longs for it. Luckily he has Rick, who showed him everything he needed to know and then some. But sometimes even the world they created from themselves is enough for him.
Matt and Cat meet before a painting class. She was in an uncomfortable position with the teacher’s aide who invited her to the class to pose and Matt kindly helps her out of it. Of course the situation doesn’t end there and he’s forced to show his true nature to protect her the second time.
Cat is a human with absolutely no knowledge of the supernatural world, but she cannot get Matt off her mind. She’s drawn to him and no matter what distance he tries to create between them to save himself she will still cross it. Unknowingly of what awaits her.
“Matt’s a lucky guy. If he lets a woman like you go, he’s an idiot.”
When Matt’s sire resurfaces to make him a deal he cannot say no to he jumps at it. The chance to feel human is as close to being human and then he can give into his heart and be with Cat. Which he does. They have a whirlwind of a romance, but what they didn’t realize when it started was that it had a ticking clock attached, and Matt will not risk her life by being with her as a vampire.
A lot happens in this book and I don’t want to spoil anything so all I can say is that Cat is one determined woman, and no matter what Matt thinks is the right thing to do, it will not stop the kind of love she has for him. But….sometimes if you don’t make a decision, or at least one in a timely fashion, one will be made for you.
“… She’s right. We need to talk, and I’m sure that’ll involve a good deal of groveling.”
Blood Rising is an intense romance with bouts of vampiric violence, mayhem, and sex. The only thing I wasn’t fond of was the sometimes too frequent shift between characters. Other than that, this is definitely an interesting book that had no problem holding my attention.
And now it is time to see what kind of trouble Rick can get into in Blood Emerald. Stay tuned!
