Review of Dancing In The Rain by Kelly Jamieson

“Friends”

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Length (Est.): 311 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Happily ever afters aren’t just for fairy tales. In this heartfelt novel, a retired athlete must become a father to the daughter he never knew—just as he discovers the power of love with a woman who reignites his passions.

Drew Sellers is drowning in broken dreams and empty beer bottles. Hockey was his world, until a bum knee reduced him from superstar to has-been. Then he learns that, thanks to a one-night-stand back in college, he’s the father of a preteen girl with major issues. Her protective aunt sees right through Drew’s BS, but “Auntie P” is no stereotypical spinster. With her slender curves, toned legs, and luscious lips, she has Drew indulging in fantasies that aren’t exactly family-friendly.

At another point in her life, Peyton Watt would have been all over a cocky alpha male who pushes all her buttons like Drew. Right now, though, she needs to focus on taking care of her niece during her sister’s health crisis, all while holding down a job and keeping her own head above water. Besides, Drew’s clearly no father of the year. He’s unemployed. He drinks too much. And he’s living in the past. But after Peyton gets a glimpse of the genuine man behind his tough-guy façade, she’s hooked—and there’s no going back.

Mindy’s Review:

**I received this book free on behalf of Netgalley via Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept in exchange for an honest review.**

Drew Sellers had everything going for him in his hockey career. He was on top of his game until a knee injury forced him into retirement. Now he has no idea what to do with his time or his future. When a one night stand catches up with him and he learns he has a preteen daughter that he knew nothing about. He finds out that the mother of the child is dying and that is why she wants him to have a relationship with his daughter.

Peyton Watt is the caring sister that takes care of her dying sister and her daughter. When she gets a phone call to get home she is on the next flight out. Things are not looking good for her sister and neither is the story that she learned about her niece’s father.  When she finally gets to meet him she knows that she has to be protective of her niece.

This was a good and sad read at the same time. You feel for all involved with a dying family member. I am glad that the sensitivity shows in the writing. The characters are strong and realize if they want to stay above water they all need to work together.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Nicole Mason is in college and wants to become a lawyer. She keeps relationships at a distance because she was really hurt by her high school sweetheart. She has been in a relationship with Silas for a couple of years now and she likes the comfort of it. He lets her hang out with her friends as long as she goes to him at night. Nicole is not really happy she is just trying to get by with her busy school schedule and move on into the future.

Joey Carter is a new student at the school who is known for throwing the best parties and getting any woman that he wants. When he meets Nicole in class for the first time he is instantly drawn to her and he cannot figure out why. He is not knows for relationships that last more than a night. However there is something different about Nicole and becoming her friend is just the beginning.

This was a very good read. This is more of a love triangle between Nicole and two men that she cares deeply for. She happens to be a very strong woman when it comes to her career and goals. She does not want to hurt anyone but after awhile realizes that she is only hurting herself by not listening to what her heart wants. She loves Silas and wants him to be happy but she cannot control the urges she has to keep Joey in her life. She is trying to keep him in the friend zone but when Silas makes a mistake in the relationship Nicole has to decide what is best for her and her future.

I love how this story is written. You know something is going to happen but you are not sure what to expect until it actually happens. I felt as if I was actually part of Nicole as she was dealing with the decisions that she had to make. Although I am not sure why she kept going back and forth with her decisions through out the book but it made this a great read.

*I received this book free from Netgalley on behalf of Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept in exchange for an honest review*

Ryder Blackwood runs a security business that is one of the best in the world. His main job is to protect the senator. He has worked for the senator for many years and loves what he is doing. Someone is after the senator and they will stop at nothing to get him to retire. And the one person they are going after is his daughter. Ryder intercepts an email that shows Hadley in a sex club.

Hadley Winters is the senator’s daughter. Hadley has been lusting over Ryder for years, And now she really needs him. Some of her private moments have surfaced and she is scared that the truth will hurt her father’s and her own career.  Now that Ryder is aware of the situation she feels that he will be able to handle it. The real question is can they handle being around each other.

This is the third book in the Dirty Little Secrets series. Ryder and Hadley become part of the game and the blackmailer is pulling all of the strings. Ryder has his team working every angle that he can think of. Of course there are twists and turns but the heat and passion is what takes this book to the next level. I really enjoyed reading this book and would love to know how this series is going to wrap up.

Review of Raiden’s Choice (A Ravens MC Novel) by J.L. Leslie

Back to the real world. Or my pretend world.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Length (Est.): 274 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

I was raised in a motorcycle club. I saw things no little girl should ever see. Did things no little girl should ever do. That was my life and I loved it. The Ravens taught me about family. Loyalty. Even loss. Now I live a different life. I’m no longer part of that family. I’m no longer part of the club. I live a life where I pretend to be the person I am. I put on a show for the world and I’m good at it. I’ve perfected it. At least I thought I had. It didn’t take him long to see right through me. I have a choice to make. Keep playing pretend or finally be who I have always wanted to be. “When you’re ready to stop hiding who you really are, come find me.”

**Raiden’s Choice is the first book in the Ravens MC series. It is a standalone, full-length novel and is suitable only for mature readers. It includes adult content, adult language, sexual situations, drug abuse, violence, and talk of rape.**

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Raiden was raised in the MC world. Her mother died when she was young and her father raised her around the club. She has seen and done things that she might not be proud of but it is all to protect her family. Now she lives a separate life as a nurse dating the ADA. She is dating the one man that wants her father locked up. Raiden lives as if she is two separate people. Can she have the life that she wants and protect her family as well?

Luka has never wanted to be part of any motorcycle club. His brother is in jail and Luka will do whatever it takes to get him out. Joining the Ravens MC is what he is set up to do by the wonderful District Attorney. It’s simple really, Luka gets info on the MC and his brother gets out of jail. Oh, if only it was that easy.

Raiden sees Luka for exactly what he is. She knows that he is trouble but he sees right through her. He knows that she is living a lie. She loves the smell of leather and being on a bike is where she is meant to be. He is so drawn to her that he might just forget what he is trying to accomplish. That is until Raiden and her father realize what is happening as their secrets get revealed.

This was a great read. This is the first MC book that I have read from J. L Leslie and I am in love. I was sad when the book ended just because I want to know more. This is written so good that it just pulls you in. You feel you are part of their world and just keep turning the pages. I cannot wait for more!

Review of Chased (A Changing Krysset Novel #3) by Kate Carley

If you were bolder, we’d all be in a lot more trouble.

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 409 pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Sixteen years ago their lives were ripped apart…

Whisked away from her beloved home as a child and raised by her elderly relatives on the Pacific Coast, Kendall Aasgaard has learned to roll with the punches. She’s strong, resilient, and independent. But when Kendall finds herself in more trouble than she can handle, her survival instincts tell her to run. She turns to the person she trusts the most—Ben Montgomery.

Ben has it all—a thriving construction business, all the toys a bachelor could want, and a steady stream of brunettes to warm his bed. Love, however, is something Ben has permanently relegated to his past.

When playful, unreserved Kendall lands on his doorstep—or more accurately, in his bed—Ben realizes that his heart has no intention of following some arbitrary rule he’d instituted sixteen years ago. And if Kendall gets her way, she’d abolish that rule altogether to claim Ben’s heart for herself.

But as the threat to Kendall intensifies, Ben is faced with an adversary of his own who is determined to destroy Montgomery Construction.

Together, they’ll fight for a future that is more than the tragedy that binds them.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Kendall Aasgaard knows exactly what true lose feels like. When her family was murdered she was just a child. She was sent to live with relatives to live the life that she deserved and away from all the memories. Now that she is forced to go back to the small town she goes to the one person that she trusts the most.

Ben Montgomery has had a rough past. His childhood love was murdered in cold blood along with her family. Now he has a thriving construction business but the past is always in his mind. Not knowing how to move forward he leans towards alcohol when it gets bad. The one thing that might push him to the breaking point is coming home and finding Kendall in his bed.

Kendall is running from an abusive relationship. She knows she can get the help she needs in this small town but first she must let Ben and her cousin Cam know exactly what is going on. Cam can be really, really protective of Kendall. That includes letting Ben know exactly how he feels about Kendall being in his house. But when Kendall teaches Ben how to move on from the past a new kind of love develops between them. That is until the past comes back to haunt them both.

This was a very good read. I love all the twists and turns. Just when you think all is well more surprises are around the corner. I love the relationship that Kendall and her cousin have. He tries to be so protective but he is a teddy bear when it comes to her. I love how Ben and Kendall connect with each other. When a tragedy strikes at a young age you never know what the future holds.

My Favorite Moment: I absolutely fell in love with her belated birthday party.

Review of Bossed by Sloane Howell

Sorry, does my love of baseball offend you?

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Length (Est.): 203 pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

He’s the boss. But she’s ready to take charge.

Jenny: Job interviews are a bitch under the best of circumstances, but when your potential boss is the world’s biggest prick, that’s when you should simply walk away. It’s just that I need this job so badly—and I’m mesmerized by Ethan Mason’s piercing gaze. Men like him aren’t supposed to exist in real life. But under the tailored suits and GQ looks, Ethan simmers with barely restrained ambition. And no matter how hard I work to fight the attraction, I’m going to get burned.

Ethan: You don’t become a top agent without learning how to close a deal. I always get what—or who—I want, by staying cool and in command. Then Jenny Jackson walks into my office with her lush curves and “screw you” attitude and blows away my intentions of keeping things professional. All I can think about is exploring the perfect body hidden beneath those conservative clothes or shutting her saucy mouth with one hot kiss. Jenny’s worth breaking the rules over—if I can convince her to break the rules for me.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from Netgalley on behalf of Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept in exchange for an honest review*

Jenny Jackson hates to interview. When you need a job, you go all in. Her boss is going to be the most arrogant beautiful man she has ever seen. Landing the job will set her attitude and skin on fire.

Ethan Mason has a thing for Jenny’s sassiness. So much so that he wants to explore her hidden features. Putting him in his place during the interview did not help at all. He knows that Jenny is the right person for the job but he needs to teach her to control her mouth.

This was a fun read. Jenny and Ethan clashed at first. I think because they both want to be alphas in life. In the end they found their middle ground. The chemistry was hot between them. Overall this was a good read.

Review of Stripped Bare (A Vegas Billionaire Novel) by Heidi McLaughlin

I’ve died and gone to Cinderella fucking heaven.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Length (Est.): 217 pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

They don’t call it the Strip for nothing. . . .

In this sinfully sexy Las Vegas romance from bestselling author Heidi McLaughlin, a man who has it all reunites with a woman who takes it all off.

Living in Sin City, Finn McCormick is no stranger to one-night stands, but the last person he expects to find losing big on the casino floor is a former high school fling. Even though Macey Webster’s clearly down on her luck, she’s still a knockout, and she’s dressed like a stripper—because she is one. Drunk off an unfamiliar cocktail of lust, pity, and compassion, Finn offers to pay Macey’s debts if she cuddles up to him around town . . . and does whatever he wants between the sheets.

Macey came to Vegas for one reason only: money. She’s got a young daughter to support, and the tips really are bigger in Vegas. But when she blows her earnings on blackjack, her guardian angel is the rich boy who once stole her heart and never called her back. Although Macey would love to turn the tables on Finn, she can’t afford to refuse his proposition—and soon she’s enjoying herself much more than she cares to admit. Macey’s used to baring her flesh, but baring her soul will take far more courage.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from Netgalley on behalf of Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept in exchange for an honest review*

Finn McCormick is a very wealthy man. He is no stranger to one night stands or having any woman that he wants. When he sees a familiar face in his hotel he must find out more about her.

Macey Webster is a single mother and will do anything to make sure her child is taken care of. Being a stripper in a small town does not pay the bills. When a friend tells her the money is bigger in Vegas she decides to give it a try. What she did not count on was running into a former fling that could turn her world upside down.

Finn remembers Macey from a one night stand that they had as kids. He knows that she still seems hurt by the past but he is drawn to her and will spend time with her at any cost. When he asks her to be his for a week she cannot refuse the proposition since she already lost all her money in blackjack. As they spend time together Macey and Finn tend to get lost in each other. Macey is hiding a very big secret from Finn that could cost her everything.

This was a fun read for me although I could predict the outcome early on. Macey wants to do what is best for her and her daughter’s future. Finn is willing to give her more than enough money just to get to spend time with her.  One thing is for sure, secrets will always be revealed.
