Review of The Enforcer (Fire’s Edge #3) by Abigail Owen

“Make me yours. Even if it only lasts today.”

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Suspense, Shifters

Length: 325 Pages

POV: Alternating First Person

Description:

Death comes for everyone. Even Drake Chandali. The aging process that twists all unmated dragon shifters’ bodies into something useless has taken hold of his body centuries early. A mate could have reversed the process, but now it’s too late. To protect his team of enforcers, he leaves, and comes face to face with the woman he’d thought was human when he saved her from a fire months before.

Except she’s not human. She’s a mate.

Camilla Carrillo almost lost her family to wildfire. To discover she’s fated to mate a creature made of flame and rage, and become one herself, should be terrifying. But somehow a rightness settles inside her, especially when she’s around the glowering red dragon shifter who wants nothing to do with her.

When Drake learns Cami bears his mark — the same mark as the High King — he refuses to believe she’s meant to be his. It’s too late. How could he turn Cami only to take her with him to the grave? At the same time, he can’t walk away. Hiding her from the corrupt, rotting High King might be the last honorable thing Drake ever does with the little time he has left.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from NetGalley on behalf of the author and Entangled Publishing.*

I’m pretty sure that The Enforcer is my favorite Fire’s Edge book.

Drake saves several humans trying to flee a farm with no way out, but instead of them freaking out (like most people who’d see a real life dragon would) one girl attempts to defend her family from this monstrous creature. He’s so enthralled by her that once they’re safe he shifts into his human form and that’s when they both feel it…that special draw to one another, but she shows no signs of being a dragon mate so he writes it off, wipers her and her family’s memories, and doesn’t look back.

Cami on the other hand starts sparking fires. Luckily Rune showed up and offered her a safe haven since the last thing she needed was to finish burning down the rest of the family farm; it’s not as if there was much left anyhow.

“I’ll make you a deal. I’ll be silent if you can smile and say thank you.”

Drake, which we learned in the previous book, has health issues. He’s gone too long without a mate and he’s deteriorating quickly. So quickly that he decides to leave his team and crawl off to Rune’s to die. But who is there to greet him…Cami.

Cami doesn’t have a memory of him, but she knows she’s drawn to him. Drake won’t risk his failing health killing a potential mate. And there in lies the best part of the story. He’s crabby. She’s determined. Their chemistry pulled me in and I could not put the book down.

“Don’t you see? I’d rather die with you than live without you.”

Abigail’s writing is amazing as ever and the storyline completely captivating. I cannot wait to see what comes next in the Fire’s Edge series. One day maybe even all the couples will reunite. One can hope at least.

Review of The Rogue King (Inferno Rising #1) by Abigail Owen

“I want to feel that again. Now.”

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance, Suspense

Length: 448 Pages

POV: Third Person

Description:

Kasia Amon is a master at hiding. Who—and what—she is makes her a mark for the entire supernatural world. Especially dragon shifters. To them, she’s treasure to be taken and claimed. A golden ticket to their highest throne. But she can’t stop bursting into flames, and there’s a sexy dragon shifter in town hunting for her…

As a rogue dragon, Brand Astarot has spent his life in the dark, shunned by his own kind, concealing his true identity. Only his dangerous reputation ensures his survival. Delivering a phoenix to the feared Blood King will bring him one step closer to the revenge he’s waited centuries to take. No way is he letting the feisty beauty get away.

But when Kasia sparks a white-hot need in him that’s impossible to ignore, Brand begins to form a new plan: claim her for himself…and take back his birthright.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author.*

Kasia is one sparky little phoenix. She pretends to be fearless in order to protect herself and her sisters. She’d do anything to keep them safe…even mate a dragon. Her father may have been a dragon, but her mother had taught her that they were the enemy. Talk about trying to trust an enemy.

“”Don’t give your trust too easily in this world. More often than not, people like me are out to harm you or use you.”

“Aren’t you trying to stop me from running away?” she pointed out. “You might want to work on your sales pitch.””

Brand was just doing his job. He found the girl, now he just had to bring her to his old friend and the Blue Dragon’s new king, Ladon. Problem with that was it seemed everyone was onto the trail of the phoenix and everyone wanted her for their own selfish reasons. Brand didn’t…or so he kept trying to convince himself.

“”Kasia kept pushing. “Look at how you handled our first meeting. Your instinct was to help me.”

Now he scowled. “My first instinct was to fuck you. Long and hard.””

Faced with a heavy choice Brand goes with the selfish decision, but fate has something different in store for him and for Kasia. And you can only fight fate so long before it becomes impossible to ignore.

The Rogue King is full of action, suspense, and one hell of a romance.

The Inferno Rising series is a spin off of the Fire’s Edge series. In the Fire’s Edge series I wondered what was going on with the dragon clan’s kings as it’s a slight part of the backstory and the Inferno Rising series sheds light on all those missing pieces. I cannot wait to read more of both series! Loving me some dragon shifters!

Review of The Rookie (Fire’s Edge #2) by Abigail Owen

“The deeper this goes, the more I’m sure.”

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Suspense, Shifters

Length: 298 Pages

POV: Alternating First Person

Description:

To escape exile, Aidan Paytah has had to prove himself worthy. Every second of every damn day. He fought with everything he had to earn his precarious place on the Huracán team of dragon shifter enforcers. He can’t fail or afford distractions, no matter how temptingly sweet. Total loyalty to the clans and dedication to his team is the only way.

Sera Morrison lost her parents and her husband in short order, leaving her a single mother running her family winery alone. Nothing could ever have prepared her for the discovery that she’s a destined dragon mate. But once she finds out, there’s only one man she wants—the one who walks away.

However, the Alliance Council has its own agenda. They want to use her as a political pawn and force a mating that could ultimately kill her to save the High King. Aidan has no choice but to kidnap her, even if it means their close proximity reinforces their own mating bond. And mating with him could end up being a far worse fate for Sera….

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author via Entangled Publishing.*

Sera didn’t want to know about dragons. She didn’t want to run a vineyard by herself, even if it once belonged to her family. She especially did not want to keep having dreams about a sexy dragon who wanted absolutely nothing to do with her in reality. What she wanted was to keep her son safe.

Aidan had been drawn toward Sera since the first time he’d met her. He couldn’t even sleep without seeing her in his dreams. But he was the orphan, the rookie, and he had to focus on proving himself to his team. He didn’t need the entanglements of a human woman.

Sera’s temper brought forth her dragon mate traits. It also meant she was a threat to her own son if she didn’t find her mate. Problem was she didn’t want to go to the Mating Council, she wanted Aidan to feel the same way she did toward him. She wanted him as a mate and a dad for her son.

The Mating Council got a little too excited to find out what Sera’s mark showed, but it was all too obvious their intentions, causing everything to go crazy. Add in someone obsessed with Sera who will betray his team and a unorthodox mating that will cause complications not only to Sera but her son.

The Rookie is a stubborn romance with sexy hot dreams turned reality, a stalker like suspense, and a storyline that will capture your attention. Fire’s Edge is a wonderfully entertaining series and I cannot wait to read more.

Review of The Boss (Fire’s Edge #1) by Abigail Owen

Until another dragon threatens to claim Delaney for his own, and Finn has to sacrifice everything to keep her alive…

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from the author.*

The Boss overlaps some of The Mate so if you haven’t read it first then you may want to. I’d definitely suggest it.

Finn is leader of his enforcer team and he runs everything with strict protocols. He expects nothing less than the best from his dragons. But his world turns hectic with his brother, Fallon, at a mating ceremony, a disappearing dragon who he cannot catch, and a woman he’s drawn too at the heart of the chaos surrounding his headquarters.

“Remind me to start donating to firemen. The deserve every damn penny.”

Delaney has a stalker who keeps starting fires around her. She thinks she’s losing her mind and a talk dark fireman seems to draw her every desire even in the middle of everything crazy going on around her. But she has to confide in someone and Finn, with is beautiful blue eyes, is it for her.

“I’m not ashamed, but you try being the focus of a bunch of horndog dragon shifters’ overactive libidos.”

Finn will break the rules to protect Delaney and his dragons adore her so much that they’ll help. As for Delaney, dragons being real…just another crazy thing for her to accept. And oh how she does it with such grace. I love the way she handles them.

“Just tell me, Finn. It can’t be worse than dragons.”

He grimaced.

“Wait.” The bottom fell out of her stomach. “It’s worse than dragons?”

The Boss is suspense wrapped in sexual heat. It will keep you wondering what will happen next and have you cheering for Finn and Delaney at the same time. I cannot wait for the next book in the Fire’s Edge series.

Review of The Mate (Fire’s Edge #0.5) by Abigail Owen

“Choose me.”

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance (Dragons)

Length: 114 Pages

POV: Third Person

Description:

Maddie Thompson’s life just fell down a rabbit hole. Finding out she’s a dragon shifter was one thing — she never quite fit into the human world, and this new reality feels… strangely right. However, discovering the next step is to choose a mate, and if she chooses wrong she’ll die, is the other side of crazy. Especially when she already left a piece of her heart with someone who didn’t want it.

To say dragon enforcer Fallon Conleth was shocked when the Mating Council summoned him as a potential mate for a newly found dragon doesn’t quite cover it. A mate is rare and precious and many dragons never find theirs. Fallon isn’t sure he’s worthy of the honor, not when so many deserve it more. He’ll just go through the motions and return home alone… until he sees Maddie. The human woman he reluctantly let walk away.

Fallon already broke Maddie’s heart once, but if he can’t convince her that they’re meant to be, she’ll die… and he won’t be far behind.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author.*

The Mate starts with Fallon arriving at the mating ceremony as a representative of the blue clan. He has no interest in finding a mate. He doesn’t want to be there. He just plans on going through the motions, that is until he sees her. Maddie. His Maddie.

“You slay me, luv.”

Maddie had thought she was being targeted with all the fires that had been happening around her, but then she saw the spark jump from her fingertips and then she knew it had been her causing them so she ran. She fled her home, her job, and Fallon. Finding out she was a dragon mate was just the icing on her overwhelming cake.

It was up to the dragon mate to choose the dragon she was drawn to. The one she wanted to be mated with. It was the council’s job to provide her a selection based on the color of her mark. If she chose right she became a dragon. If she chose wrong she’d parish in her potential mate’s dragon fire. No pressure or anything.

Maddie had assumed her mate was the one who discovered what she was and brought her to the council. Then Fallon walked in and she wasn’t so sure anymore.

Fallon knew he was Maddie’s mate, felt it to his core, but he had to convince her to choose him. And he’d even stoop to begging.

“Everything about you is made for me, and I’m made for you. I want to spend the rest of my remaining years making you happy.”

The Mate takes place on the edge of a political coup, adding to the urgency for Fallon to claim Maddie as his mate in order to keep her safe. It has suspense, heated passion, and the beginning of a storyline that I cannot wait to watch develop throughout the Fire’s Edge series.

Review of Seneca’s Faith (Shadowcat Nation #4) by Abigail Owen

A Little Manipulation Can Be Good

Genre: Paranormal Romance (Shifters)

Book Length (Est.): 209 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

The Delaney Dare needs a new leader—one from outside, after their own Alpha’s actions led to the shifter war. Gage McAvoy has agreed to marry one of the previous Alpha’s daughters and try to keep the dare from falling apart. Unfortunately, the daughter he’s agreed to marry is not the one he wants.

Seneca Delaney is a known latent, unable to shift. She’s remained in her dare, enduring rejection and isolation all her life, even from her own father, because she had no other place to go. Standing on the sidelines yet again while Gage marries her older sister is the last thing she wants to do. Then circumstance throws her together with the one man she can’t have, trying to save a nation of shifters who don’t want her, and risking the exposure of lifelong secrets that could result not only in her death, but in Gage’s.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

With the fate of the Shadowcat Nation on the line this book brings all the characters from the series together to fight for the future they all want. And damn what a fight it is!

Gage went from being engaged to one Alpha’s daughter to being engaged to another. The way he handled losing his first fiance in Tieryn’s Fury made him very likeable, but there are moments in this one where I couldn’t tell if he was being honorable or a complete and utter ass. Turns out it’s the former, but I did enjoy yelling at him until I discovered that fact.

Seneca had been in love with Gage for a long time, but he was engaged to marry her older sister so her desires had to remain hidden. When she’s basically forced to marry Gage in order to help negotiations she’s reluctant, but the alternative is much worse. She loves him, but she’d never force him to be with her. And he accepts the marriage willingly because he has a secret he is unable to share. As for secrets, Seneca has a few of her own.

“That look had been pure Alpha, but then she’d run, as a submissive would do, and the predator in him wanted to chase. Either way, he was about as turned on as he could be.”

I love how sweet and caring Seneca is. How she refuses to let anything be awkward and just jumps right in making everything look easy. She’s like a happiness tornado ninja.

The relationship between Gage and Seneca may have been forced, but it’s explosive. They each have their secrets, but together nothing compares to them.

Seneca’s Faith is one hell of an epic conclusion for the Shadowcat Nation series. It’s filled with secrets, assassins, battles, shifters of multiple varieties, and crazy hot sex…can’t beat that combination!

My Favorite Moment was when Gage needed to show the big, bad tiger who’s in charge. That’s one way to tame a kitty.

Review of Tieryn’s Fury (Shadowcat Nation #3) by Abigail Owen

Revenge Meets Its Match

Genre: Paranormal Romance (Shifters)

Book Length (Est.): 210 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

The day Shane Callahan lost his wife and was forced to run from the only home they’d ever known was the day he’d vowed he’d kill every last man responsible. He’s waited years in hiding, but is finally on the verge of taking his revenge. Until he is assigned to protect a Healer and is forced to halt in his quest.

As the Alpha’s daughter and the Healer in her Dare of mountain lion shifters, Tieryn McGraw has enjoyed a privileged life. As the fiancé of the next Alpha in line, she expects that to continue. But then she ends up on the run with a man determined not to like her…and who makes her question everything about her decisions and her future.

Shane needs her to heal more than his body. But can Tieryn heal his soul and prove to him that love is a higher purpose than revenge?

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Tieryn didn’t want to know anything about her Fated Mate when the seer had called; she didn’t need to know because she was engaged. But when he comes into her life she’ll be drawn to him like no other and questioning her decision to marry without love.

Shane lost his wife and was determined to find the ones responsible and make them all pay. It was all he lived for. Then he was sent to protect Tieryn and began feeling things his heart couldn’t process. Unable to let himself fall for her he’ll do the next best thing, he’ll protect her. As her assigned bodyguard he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

“I won’t pretend I don’t want you, because I do.”

Tieryn was raised like a sheltered princess. Shane didn’t have that luxury. Now that they’re at the mercy of her Survivor ability and constantly on the run for their lives she’ll have to step up and he’ll have to let her. It’s a constant push and pull between the two.

As the tension rises in the Shadowcat Nation we’ll learn who is behind all the terror and why…or at least part of it. I have a feeling there are more than one set of bad guys and cannot wait to see what happens in book 4, Seneca’s Faith.

Tieryn’s Fury is another great book in the Shadowcat Nation series. The constant moving adds a slight humor to the suspense, especially when they make it to Louisiana. Their stubbornness frustrated me at times, but it couldn’t have successfully played out any other way.

My Favorite Heartbreaking Moment was when Tieryn admitted aloud the truth as she knew it .

“Did Sarai tell you?”

“She tried, but I wouldn’t let her. I’ve known for a while, but I also know that his soul has been scarred by what happened to his wife. He can’t love me back.”
