Review of The Enforcer (Fire’s Edge #3) by Abigail Owen

“Make me yours. Even if it only lasts today.”

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Suspense, Shifters

Length: 325 Pages

POV: Alternating First Person

Description:

Death comes for everyone. Even Drake Chandali. The aging process that twists all unmated dragon shifters’ bodies into something useless has taken hold of his body centuries early. A mate could have reversed the process, but now it’s too late. To protect his team of enforcers, he leaves, and comes face to face with the woman he’d thought was human when he saved her from a fire months before.

Except she’s not human. She’s a mate.

Camilla Carrillo almost lost her family to wildfire. To discover she’s fated to mate a creature made of flame and rage, and become one herself, should be terrifying. But somehow a rightness settles inside her, especially when she’s around the glowering red dragon shifter who wants nothing to do with her.

When Drake learns Cami bears his mark — the same mark as the High King — he refuses to believe she’s meant to be his. It’s too late. How could he turn Cami only to take her with him to the grave? At the same time, he can’t walk away. Hiding her from the corrupt, rotting High King might be the last honorable thing Drake ever does with the little time he has left.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from NetGalley on behalf of the author and Entangled Publishing.*

I’m pretty sure that The Enforcer is my favorite Fire’s Edge book.

Drake saves several humans trying to flee a farm with no way out, but instead of them freaking out (like most people who’d see a real life dragon would) one girl attempts to defend her family from this monstrous creature. He’s so enthralled by her that once they’re safe he shifts into his human form and that’s when they both feel it…that special draw to one another, but she shows no signs of being a dragon mate so he writes it off, wipers her and her family’s memories, and doesn’t look back.

Cami on the other hand starts sparking fires. Luckily Rune showed up and offered her a safe haven since the last thing she needed was to finish burning down the rest of the family farm; it’s not as if there was much left anyhow.

“I’ll make you a deal. I’ll be silent if you can smile and say thank you.”

Drake, which we learned in the previous book, has health issues. He’s gone too long without a mate and he’s deteriorating quickly. So quickly that he decides to leave his team and crawl off to Rune’s to die. But who is there to greet him…Cami.

Cami doesn’t have a memory of him, but she knows she’s drawn to him. Drake won’t risk his failing health killing a potential mate. And there in lies the best part of the story. He’s crabby. She’s determined. Their chemistry pulled me in and I could not put the book down.

“Don’t you see? I’d rather die with you than live without you.”

Abigail’s writing is amazing as ever and the storyline completely captivating. I cannot wait to see what comes next in the Fire’s Edge series. One day maybe even all the couples will reunite. One can hope at least.

Review of The Aussie Next Door (Patterson’s Bluff #1) by Stefanie London

“Bad Thoughts. Retreat!”

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Length: 350 Pages

POV: Third Person

Description:

American Angie Donovan has never wanted much. When you grow up getting bounced from foster home to foster home, you learn not to become attached to anything, anyone, or any place. But it only took her two days to fall in love with Australia. With her visa clock ticking, surely she can fall in love with an Australian—and get hitched—in two months. Especially if he’s as hot and funny as her next-door neighbor…

Jace Walters has never wanted much—except a bathroom he didn’t have to share. The last cookie all to himself. And solitude. But when you grow up in a family of seven, you can kiss those things goodbye. He’s finally living alone and working on his syndicated comic strip in privacy. Sure, his American neighbor is distractingly sexy and annoyingly nosy, but she’ll be gone in a few months…

Except now she’s determined to find her perfect match by checking out every eligible male in the town, and her choices are even more distracting. So why does it suddenly feel like he—and his obnoxious tight-knit family, and even these two wayward dogs—could be exactly what she needs?

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley.*

Jace is a different kind of leading man than I’m used to. He speaks his mind with lack of a filter, he doesn’t handle change well, and likes to be alone. Then Angie moves into his small rental house (behind his own) and his mother basically guilt trips into having house guests. Poor Jace just doesn’t know how to handle all the change.

Angie’s visa is set to expire and she’d do anything to not have to go back to America. Even when someone puts the crazy idea of marriage into her head she goes for it, but on her own terms. She can’t just marry anyone…she needs love. And she’s hoping to find it quickly, or at least get the man she wants, aka her landlord Jace, to notice her. However, until then he decides to help her with her shenanigans.

He’s been it for her since the moment she met him. Although he has a past that has made him reluctant to ever get involved with anyone else again. I mean who wants a man with that many routines…beside Angie that is.

The Aussie Next Door brings two wounded hearts together. Sometimes just because someone else doesn’t like everything about you, doesn’t mean someone else won’t.

I enjoyed the development of the characters and the storyline. It wrapped me up in the world of Jace and Angie and those crazy dogs. I look forward to what will happen next in Patterson’s Bluff.

Review of The Rookie (Fire’s Edge #2) by Abigail Owen

“The deeper this goes, the more I’m sure.”

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Suspense, Shifters

Length: 298 Pages

POV: Alternating First Person

Description:

To escape exile, Aidan Paytah has had to prove himself worthy. Every second of every damn day. He fought with everything he had to earn his precarious place on the Huracán team of dragon shifter enforcers. He can’t fail or afford distractions, no matter how temptingly sweet. Total loyalty to the clans and dedication to his team is the only way.

Sera Morrison lost her parents and her husband in short order, leaving her a single mother running her family winery alone. Nothing could ever have prepared her for the discovery that she’s a destined dragon mate. But once she finds out, there’s only one man she wants—the one who walks away.

However, the Alliance Council has its own agenda. They want to use her as a political pawn and force a mating that could ultimately kill her to save the High King. Aidan has no choice but to kidnap her, even if it means their close proximity reinforces their own mating bond. And mating with him could end up being a far worse fate for Sera….

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author via Entangled Publishing.*

Sera didn’t want to know about dragons. She didn’t want to run a vineyard by herself, even if it once belonged to her family. She especially did not want to keep having dreams about a sexy dragon who wanted absolutely nothing to do with her in reality. What she wanted was to keep her son safe.

Aidan had been drawn toward Sera since the first time he’d met her. He couldn’t even sleep without seeing her in his dreams. But he was the orphan, the rookie, and he had to focus on proving himself to his team. He didn’t need the entanglements of a human woman.

Sera’s temper brought forth her dragon mate traits. It also meant she was a threat to her own son if she didn’t find her mate. Problem was she didn’t want to go to the Mating Council, she wanted Aidan to feel the same way she did toward him. She wanted him as a mate and a dad for her son.

The Mating Council got a little too excited to find out what Sera’s mark showed, but it was all too obvious their intentions, causing everything to go crazy. Add in someone obsessed with Sera who will betray his team and a unorthodox mating that will cause complications not only to Sera but her son.

The Rookie is a stubborn romance with sexy hot dreams turned reality, a stalker like suspense, and a storyline that will capture your attention. Fire’s Edge is a wonderfully entertaining series and I cannot wait to read more.
