Review of Big Stick (Aces Hockey #7) by Kelly Jamieson

“The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Length: 264 Pages

POV: Third Person

Description:

A brooding hockey hunk learns to embrace life—and love—from a single mom who takes the world one puck at a time.

Big move . . . Jodie’s motto is “Don’t wait for the perfect moment – take the moment and make it perfect.” And that’s just what she decides to do when she moves to Chicago with her two-year-old daughter. Now all Jodie needs is a place to live, and her best friend’s boyfriend has just the answer.

Big stick . . . Nick Balachov has zero interest in socializing, partying, or flirting right now. It’s not that he doesn’t like women. He loves them. It’s just that hockey, casual hookups, and hanging out at home are enough for him these days. Now Nick has a big problem – because the woman living in his empty coach house is a major distraction.

Big deal? The more Nick tries to keep his distance, the more Jodie needs him – around the house, that is. First he helps with the snowstorm, then the power outage. Nick even finds himself trying to impress her little girl. What the hell is wrong with him? Jodie represents everything Nick doesn’t want. But maybe she’s just what he needs. . . .

Jennifer’s Review:

Nick likes his solitude. Nothing gives him more happiness than being home with his peace and quiet. However, everything changes when his life gets shook up a little.

Jodie wants to make life wonderful for her daughter, but getting settled after the big move hasn’t been all that fun. She’s staying with her best friend and feels like she’s imposing on her and her boyfriend so house hunting she goes, only to end up discouraged at the prospects within her price range.

Nick has an empty guest house. Jodie needs a place to stay. They’re both put in a spot where neither can say no.

It doesn’t take long for kid hating Nick to fall in love with two-year-old, Zyana, and Jodie shortly after. However, the ghosts of his past keep him from making any commitments. He doesn’t want anyone to depend on him and risk letting them down again.

Big Stick is an adorable and steamy romance. What starts out as just a little adult fun quickly entangles their hearts. And the ending…oh so sweet! I love the Aces Hockey series! Each book pulls you in and the characters completely captivate you.

Slap Shot (Aces Hockey #5) by Kelly Jamieson

“This, though…this could be addictive.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Book Length (Est.): 259 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

My name’s Max Hall, and I need to f***. As a pro hockey player who’s been away from the game for over a year, my libido has picked one hell of an an inconvenient time to come roaring back to life.

After my wife died from a rare form of cancer, sex was the last thing on my mind. Same with hockey, the other love of my life. Now, after fifteen months of eating too much, drinking too much, and generally just feeling sorry for myself, I’m facing a steep uphill battle to get my ass in shape and play my way back onto the Chicago Aces.

So I’m not looking for a relationship. Just sex. Yeah, I know how that makes me sound. But the truth is, I’ll never love another woman the way I loved my wife. When I meet a sexy bridesmaid at my teammate’s wedding, I decide to scratch that itch. A fling with Kendra Armstrong in her posh hotel room could be just what the trainer ordered.

Not only is Kendra smokin’ hot, she’s dynamite in bed—one of the perks of being a sex toy designer. Since she lives in New York anyway, we agree to keep things casual, no strings attached. The arrangement is perfect . . . until one of us falls in love. And it’s not me.

If you’ve followed the Aces Hockey series then you’re familiar with Max Hall. He’s been in the hearts of most of the players. He took some time off of playing for the Aces when his wife was diagnosed with cancer and after she passed he just couldn’t get out of his own head long enough to focus on anything. But now he’s ready to get back on the team, he’s working hard and following his strict fitness regimen. He may even be ready to get back in the saddle and enjoy a little womanly contact, but only the non-committal kind.

Kendra was only in town for a wedding and Max caught her eye. Why not have a little no strings fun? She had every intention of never seeing him again, but when he makes that difficult then how can he blame her for reading into things more than she should. You don’t take a one-night stand out on a date or hang out with them.

Max unknowingly cracks the door, Kendra falls through it, and Max slams it and runs away. Yep, that about sums it up when it comes to the hearts of these two characters. Of course when you have someone fantastic in your life like Kendra it won’t take long for Max to realize that he lost something he needs to get back.

Slap Shot is a sweet romance wrapped around very naughty intentions. It’ll make you laugh, possibly cry, all while winning your heart.

Review of Hot Shot (Last Shot #2) by Kelly Jamieson

“Occupying  Vagistan!”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Military Romance

Book Length (Est.): 235 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

A former Navy SEAL and current bad boy bar owner learns to trust a free spirit in this steamy novel of unexpected romance from the bestselling author of Body Shot and the Heller Brothers series.

Marco Solis knows that if he gets too close to people they disappear. His parents were deported back to Mexico when he was fourteen, his fiancée married someone else while he was in the military, and now his business partner’s spending more time with his girl than with Marco. For better or worse, that’s how Marco meets Carrie Garner. She’s legitimately model-hot. She’s also a nut—a wild, artsy, unapproachable nut. So why is Marco so interested in cracking her shell?

Although Carrie Garner is a natural in front of the camera, her dream is to make it as a photographer. Soon she’ll be heading to Spain for design school, and she’ll miss her best friend, Hayden, like crazy. She’ll even miss Hayden’s boyfriend, Beck—but she won’t miss Beck’s partner, Marco. Bossy, brooding, and annoyingly sexy, Marco really pushes her buttons, though he obviously wouldn’t mind pushing her buttons in an up-against-the-wall, hard-and-fast kind of way. The craziest part is, if Carrie lets him do that, well . . . she may never want to leave.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Marco has been interested in Carrie since the night they met at his Tequila tasting. Their friends hooked up and got engaged, but Carrie just doesn’t seem interested in him. As a matter of fact she pretty much seems to hate him, but that won’t stop Marco from figuring out why.

Carrie doesn’t want to be defined by the fact that she’s a model so when Marco tries all the typical lines on her she pretty much runs as far away from him as possible, but when he comes up with a plan for their friends she can’t help but participate.

Surprise party planning causes Marco and Carrie to spend more time together than she would have liked, but when her niece goes and does something that forces them to spend even more time together there’s only one determined outcome…they’ll slowly learn things about each other and closer and closer they will become until they can’t bear to be apart.

Hot Shot is a fun read about fierce determination. Damn, but Marco is one determined man! It’s about insecurities and pasts that continue to haunt their presents. It’s about overcoming preconceived notions and bumbling comments. It’s about love and how it sneaks up when you least expect it to. It’s another great book by Kelly Jamieson and I look forward to book three, Long Shot.

“You’ve deduced my dastardly plan to debauch you.”

“Oh wow. That was a good sentence.”

He choked. “Glad I impressed you with my words.”

“Oh, you’re impressing me with more than just words. Those hands…God.”

Review of Dancing In The Rain by Kelly Jamieson

“Friends”

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Length (Est.): 311 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Happily ever afters aren’t just for fairy tales. In this heartfelt novel, a retired athlete must become a father to the daughter he never knew—just as he discovers the power of love with a woman who reignites his passions.

Drew Sellers is drowning in broken dreams and empty beer bottles. Hockey was his world, until a bum knee reduced him from superstar to has-been. Then he learns that, thanks to a one-night-stand back in college, he’s the father of a preteen girl with major issues. Her protective aunt sees right through Drew’s BS, but “Auntie P” is no stereotypical spinster. With her slender curves, toned legs, and luscious lips, she has Drew indulging in fantasies that aren’t exactly family-friendly.

At another point in her life, Peyton Watt would have been all over a cocky alpha male who pushes all her buttons like Drew. Right now, though, she needs to focus on taking care of her niece during her sister’s health crisis, all while holding down a job and keeping her own head above water. Besides, Drew’s clearly no father of the year. He’s unemployed. He drinks too much. And he’s living in the past. But after Peyton gets a glimpse of the genuine man behind his tough-guy façade, she’s hooked—and there’s no going back.

Mindy’s Review:

**I received this book free on behalf of Netgalley via Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept in exchange for an honest review.**

Drew Sellers had everything going for him in his hockey career. He was on top of his game until a knee injury forced him into retirement. Now he has no idea what to do with his time or his future. When a one night stand catches up with him and he learns he has a preteen daughter that he knew nothing about. He finds out that the mother of the child is dying and that is why she wants him to have a relationship with his daughter.

Peyton Watt is the caring sister that takes care of her dying sister and her daughter. When she gets a phone call to get home she is on the next flight out. Things are not looking good for her sister and neither is the story that she learned about her niece’s father.  When she finally gets to meet him she knows that she has to be protective of her niece.

This was a good and sad read at the same time. You feel for all involved with a dying family member. I am glad that the sensitivity shows in the writing. The characters are strong and realize if they want to stay above water they all need to work together.

Review of Back Check (Aces Hockey #4) by Kelly Jamieson

back-check

“Maybe what we’re doing is…trying again.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Book Length (Est.): 232 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

The so-bad-they’re-good alphas of hockey’s Chicago Aces are back in this emotionally charged novel of sex, love, and second chances from the bestselling author of Top Shelf and the Heller Brothers series.

Tanner Bennet hates weddings. They just remind him that he simply isn’t cut out for any kind of healthy, committed relationship—never has been, never will be. After getting rejected by the girl he thought was “the one” all those years ago, he made a huge mistake and married the wrong person. Now that the divorced heartbreaker has reluctantly agreed to be a groomsman for one of his NHL teammates, the last thing he expects is a chance at redemption with the one that got away.

After Marc Dupuis of the Chicago Aces hires wedding planner Katelyn Medford, she discovers that her big break comes with a twist: a reunion with her college sweetheart. The way she dumped Tanner still haunts her. Eight years—and three broken engagements—later, Katelyn knows she’ll never have that kind of innocent, wide-eyed passion again. Still, she and Tanner soon generate enough body heat to burn up the sheets. And even with Tanner’s career with the Aces up in the air, Katelyn’s wondering whether the time is right to let him in for real

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Tanner left his one true love when he got drafted into the NHL. He’d asked her to go with him, but she didn’t, and he’d spent the following many years trying to fill in that hole in his heart.

Katelyn wanted to leave with Tanner, but she had a secret that had kept her from doing so. Now her life is different though, she doesn’t have those same obligations anymore, and she’s even created her own event planning business. Which is how she runs back into Tanner. She’s planning one of his teammates weddings, one that he’s in. So much for keeping the past in the past.

Two hurt hearts collide again in an undeniable desire for each other.

Tanner and Katelyn both tried moving on, but once you’ve found the love of your life it’s a little difficult to replace them. A fact they both realize with the more time they spend together.

Back Check is a loving and fiery story about reunited love. It has the humor associated with all the Aces Hockey novels, because let’s face it those players can be downright hilarious, and the intense heat I’m beginning to associate with Kelly Jamieson. There is a tender moment or two that may require a tissue, but over all it’s a fun and entertaining read.

Review of Top Shelf (Aces Hockey #3) by Kelly Jamieson

top-shelf

Mixology at its Finest

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance (Hockey)

Book Length (Est.): 267 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Whether it’s a clutch goal or a cocktail, nothing beats “top shelf.” In this novel from the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series, a fun-loving jock and an ambitious career woman mix business with pleasure.

Not only is Jared Rupp one of the stars of the NHL’s Chicago Aces, he’s also the owner of the Sin Bin, the after-hours hot spot where the whole team hangs out. Lately, Jared can’t take his eyes off the woman he’s hired to give the Bin a more modern feel: a sexy, sophisticated consultant who has carved out a niche updating drink menus. She’s as passionate about her career as Jared is about hockey—and yet he can’t help wondering what kind of cocktail she really wants.

In her line of work, Sidney Frayne is used to guys hitting on her in bars, but Jared gets her hot enough to burst into flames. When he’s wining and dining her, he’s sophisticated as hell; on the rink, he’s a testosterone-fueled powerhouse. Still, Sidney’s bitter divorce taught her to keep her emotions on ice. With her busy schedule—and Jared’s playboy reputation—she’s not sure she’s ready for a fling. Because if she lets Jared into her bed, she just may have to let him into her heart.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Sidney had her heart broken in the cruelest of ways by her ex-husband and it more than left its mark on her. It’s the reason she isn’t interested in relationships. Flings – sure. Relationships where your heart can be broken – absolutely not. But you can’t always control your heart and when Jared pushes his way in she’ll have no choice, but face the music.

Jared is a ladies man and it’s apparent by the basic stalker girl who keeps showing up wanting more. Sidney intrigues him and he can’t seem to keep his distance. He knows her rules, even accepted them, but that won’t keep him from trying to break them.

He wants more. She wants more, but is too afraid to admit it. But none of that will matter when Sidney is forced to relive what she thought had been her cruelest heartbreak only to realize this one is much worse. Only Jared will know how to make things right.

Mixology is a special skill and Top Shelf  is the only way to go. With a little sadness, a lot of heat, and a crazy chemistry this book was difficult to put down. I’ve enjoyed Jared and his bar in previous books, I loved him in this!

My Favorite Part is the bet. WOW did that backfire or what?!?!

Review of Body Shot (Last Shot #1) by Kelly Jamieson

Body Shot

A Little Tequila Show & Tell

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Military Romance

Book Length (Est.): 275 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

The bestselling author of the Heller Brothers series stirs up a tempting cocktail of fun and seduction as a sexy SEAL-turned-bartender treats a buttoned-up scientist to a wild weekend . . . and a change of heart.

Former Navy SEAL Beck Whitcomb left a world of privilege to prove he could make his own way. Money, mansions, expensive cars—none of it could heal the loss of his older brother, or buy his parents’ love. Now, after using his trust fund to open the Conquistadors tequila bar with his brothers-in-arms, Beck has it all: good friends, fine liquor, and hot hookups. When it comes to women, commitment’s not his thing—until he gets a taste of the pretty professor who walks into his bar . . . and winds up in his bed.

Hayden Miles knows all too well that emotional decisions can lead to heartbreak, and nothing screams “bad decision” like a playboy bartender with inked biceps and a wicked smile. Still, their chemistry is off-the-charts explosive—and Hayden knows her chemistry. For once, this good girl longs to let loose. But is she willing to risk the pain to quench her thirst? With the promise of more on the table, Hayden’s eager to believe . . . before she misses her shot.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Has anything ever good started with the words ‘Tequila Tasting’? I’d venture to say no, but for Beck and Hayden the answer is a definite yes.

Beck knows what it’s like to live in hell and since he got out of the military he’s been living it up and enjoying everything life has to offer. He owns a tequila bar with his friends, he skydives for fun, and can have any girl at any time. That’s the man everyone sees. But underneath he has a heart of gold and he gives way more than he gets.

Hayden is a straitlaced, job focused kind of girl. Her priorities all lie within her work and dating isn’t on her agenda. Then Beck happens. He’s a whirlwind that sucks her in and she’ll love every minute, except for when she over thinks, which she does quite often.

They’re complete opposites, but every time they test each others limits or see what they themselves are capable of it pulled me in a little more. From the witty conversations to the dirty talking moments there’s never a doubt that Beck and Hayden have what it takes.

Body Shots is sexy and humorous rolled up in romance. The characters were loveable, the storyline captivating, and overall I enjoyed every single page.

My Favorite Moment: Beck’s reactions to Hayden are hilarious, especially the first time he displays a little jealousy.
