Review of Hot Shot (Last Shot #2) by Kelly Jamieson

“Occupying  Vagistan!”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Military Romance

Book Length (Est.): 235 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

A former Navy SEAL and current bad boy bar owner learns to trust a free spirit in this steamy novel of unexpected romance from the bestselling author of Body Shot and the Heller Brothers series.

Marco Solis knows that if he gets too close to people they disappear. His parents were deported back to Mexico when he was fourteen, his fiancée married someone else while he was in the military, and now his business partner’s spending more time with his girl than with Marco. For better or worse, that’s how Marco meets Carrie Garner. She’s legitimately model-hot. She’s also a nut—a wild, artsy, unapproachable nut. So why is Marco so interested in cracking her shell?

Although Carrie Garner is a natural in front of the camera, her dream is to make it as a photographer. Soon she’ll be heading to Spain for design school, and she’ll miss her best friend, Hayden, like crazy. She’ll even miss Hayden’s boyfriend, Beck—but she won’t miss Beck’s partner, Marco. Bossy, brooding, and annoyingly sexy, Marco really pushes her buttons, though he obviously wouldn’t mind pushing her buttons in an up-against-the-wall, hard-and-fast kind of way. The craziest part is, if Carrie lets him do that, well . . . she may never want to leave.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Marco has been interested in Carrie since the night they met at his Tequila tasting. Their friends hooked up and got engaged, but Carrie just doesn’t seem interested in him. As a matter of fact she pretty much seems to hate him, but that won’t stop Marco from figuring out why.

Carrie doesn’t want to be defined by the fact that she’s a model so when Marco tries all the typical lines on her she pretty much runs as far away from him as possible, but when he comes up with a plan for their friends she can’t help but participate.

Surprise party planning causes Marco and Carrie to spend more time together than she would have liked, but when her niece goes and does something that forces them to spend even more time together there’s only one determined outcome…they’ll slowly learn things about each other and closer and closer they will become until they can’t bear to be apart.

Hot Shot is a fun read about fierce determination. Damn, but Marco is one determined man! It’s about insecurities and pasts that continue to haunt their presents. It’s about overcoming preconceived notions and bumbling comments. It’s about love and how it sneaks up when you least expect it to. It’s another great book by Kelly Jamieson and I look forward to book three, Long Shot.

“You’ve deduced my dastardly plan to debauch you.”

“Oh wow. That was a good sentence.”

He choked. “Glad I impressed you with my words.”

“Oh, you’re impressing me with more than just words. Those hands…God.”

Review of Walk of Shame (Love Unexpectedly #4) by Lauren Layne

“Death by flu, transmitted by kiss.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy

Book Length (Est.): 218 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Sparks fly between a misunderstood New York socialite and a cynical divorce lawyer in this lively standalone rom-com from the USA Today bestselling author of Blurred Lines and Love Story.

Pampered heiress Georgianna Watkins has a party-girl image to maintain, but all the shopping and clubbing is starting to feel a little bit hollow—and a whole lot lonely. Though Georgie would never admit it, the highlights of her week are the mornings when she comes home at the same time as her uptight, workaholic neighbor is leaving to hit the gym and put in a long day at the office. Teasing him is the most fun Georgie’s had in years—and the fuel for all her naughtiest daydreams.

Celebrity divorce attorney Andrew Mulroney doesn’t have much time for women, especially spoiled tabloid princesses who spend more time on Page Six than at an actual job. Although Georgie’s drop-dead gorgeous, she’s also everything Andrew resents: the type of girl who inherited her penthouse instead of earning it. But after Andrew caps one of their predawn sparring sessions with a surprise kiss—a kiss that’s caught on camera—all of Manhattan is gossiping about whether they’re a real couple. And nobody’s more surprised than Andrew to find that the answer just might be yes.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from NetGalley on behalf of Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept in exchange for an honest review*

Georgie is known for staying out late and partying with her friends, but lately that lifestyle hasn’t had much appeal. What does hold her interest is the man who walks past the front desk every morning at exactly 5 AM. She loves to torment him because he’s the only person she knows who doesn’t seem to like her and it drives her crazy. She likes to be liked, even if it means stopping and picking up donuts every single morning.

“I hope the Wicked Witch’s flying monkeys carry you away and I never have to see you again.”

Andrew has his own reasons for sticking to his tight morning schedule, not that he’d admit to them. He’s a divorce attorney and because he sees the horrible side of marriage he isn’t the type to want to rush into a relationship, and the thought of marriage isn’t exactly on the his list of top things to do. He takes proper etiquette to an entirely new and annoying level.

“It would seem that my incentive to leave and my incentive to stay are one and the same.”

Walk of Shame is a hilariously sweet read. It takes two of the most unlikely people who seem to enjoy driving the each other crazy and puts them in a scenario that can only have one outcome. I mean how could you not fall for someone who would drop everything to take care of you?!?! Mix the sweet with their daily banter meant for nothing else but to win one over on the other and you have an entertaining book.

Review of Back Check (Aces Hockey #4) by Kelly Jamieson

back-check

“Maybe what we’re doing is…trying again.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Book Length (Est.): 232 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

The so-bad-they’re-good alphas of hockey’s Chicago Aces are back in this emotionally charged novel of sex, love, and second chances from the bestselling author of Top Shelf and the Heller Brothers series.

Tanner Bennet hates weddings. They just remind him that he simply isn’t cut out for any kind of healthy, committed relationship—never has been, never will be. After getting rejected by the girl he thought was “the one” all those years ago, he made a huge mistake and married the wrong person. Now that the divorced heartbreaker has reluctantly agreed to be a groomsman for one of his NHL teammates, the last thing he expects is a chance at redemption with the one that got away.

After Marc Dupuis of the Chicago Aces hires wedding planner Katelyn Medford, she discovers that her big break comes with a twist: a reunion with her college sweetheart. The way she dumped Tanner still haunts her. Eight years—and three broken engagements—later, Katelyn knows she’ll never have that kind of innocent, wide-eyed passion again. Still, she and Tanner soon generate enough body heat to burn up the sheets. And even with Tanner’s career with the Aces up in the air, Katelyn’s wondering whether the time is right to let him in for real

Jennifer’s Review:

Tanner left his one true love when he got drafted into the NHL. He’d asked her to go with him, but she didn’t, and he’d spent the following many years trying to fill in that hole in his heart.

Katelyn wanted to leave with Tanner, but she had a secret that had kept her from doing so. Now her life is different though, she doesn’t have those same obligations anymore, and she’s even created her own event planning business. Which is how she runs back into Tanner. She’s planning one of his teammates weddings, one that he’s in. So much for keeping the past in the past.

Two hurt hearts collide again in an undeniable desire for each other.

Tanner and Katelyn both tried moving on, but once you’ve found the love of your life it’s a little difficult to replace them. A fact they both realize with the more time they spend together.

Back Check is a loving and fiery story about reunited love. It has the humor associated with all the Aces Hockey novels, because let’s face it those players can be downright hilarious, and the intense heat I’m beginning to associate with Kelly Jamieson. There is a tender moment or two that may require a tissue, but over all it’s a fun and entertaining read.

Review of Getting Inside (Seattle Grizzlies #1) by Serena Bell

getting-inside

“Are we having a conversation about my dick?”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Book Length (Est.): 198 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

They’re big. They’re hot. And they play hard.

In the kickoff to Serena Bell’s sexy new football romance series, the heat between a female coach and a cocky linebacker turns the Seattle Grizzlies locker room upside down.

Iona: There’s nothing like the rush of going head-to-head with the boys. Football is my life, and I got my new job with the Seattle Grizzlies because I know how to play rough. But as a woman in a man’s game, I can’t afford any distractions—like panty-melting tabloid darling Ty Williams, my star linebacker. I’ve stared down plenty of good-looking players without losing my cool . . . and yet something about Ty’s intense gaze burns straight to my core.

Ty : Despite what they say in the press, I save my best moves for game day. The Grizzlies aren’t just my teammates, they’re my brothers—no way am I going to let some new coach shake up our defense. But Iona Thomas isn’t just some coach. It’s so tough to keep my head in the game when I’d rather be in bed with her. She may take charge at practice, but if I had her in my arms, I’d be choosing the plays. I just need to figure out what makes her tick—and what makes her want to break the rules.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Getting Inside mixes in a little humor with its romance. I found myself laughing at little things the characters thought or said throughout the book, which kept is light and entertaining.

Iona is one of the coaches for the Grizzlies and despite her always professional attitude there’s one man you who has an entirely different effect on her.

Ty is a football player and the last thing he ever thought would happen would be him having the hots for his new coach. Then again, I bet he never expected a sexy female coach either.

Iona’s hell bent on ignoring the heat she feels when Ty’s around and keeping things only professional. Ty has different plans. And all it’ll take is a little power outage to start a fire that won’t burn out very easily. With their professional relationship in the spotlight so to speak their personal one will be that much more difficult and secretive….I bet we all know how that’ll turn out. It definitely has its ups and downs, but every single one is worth the ride.

My Favorite Moment is when Coach gets in on a little play action during practice. Hope no one saw that reaction!

Mindy’s Review:

Kane “Killer” Kavanagh has one goal in life. He wants to be the best MMA fighter alive. He is training for the MMA National Championships in Las Vegas that are fast approaching. He will not let anything or anyone come in between him and his dreams. And he has yet to lose a fight.

Nora Hannigan has been dodging Kane’s crazy flirting attempts for awhile now. Nora’s best friend is about to marry into the Kavanagh family so she really has no choice but to see Kane regularly. Nora has lots of issues on her own that she is dealing with and becoming friends with Kane could complicate things.

Kane has had the hots for Nora for a long time. He flirts with her but he is too busy for a relationship or anything steady right now. The one night things seem to get a little fuzzy between Nora and Kane is one of the best night’s of their life. They were not prepared for the attraction and feeling they would experience. When Nora gets into some of her mothers trouble the Kavanagh’s will have her back in anything she needs but Kane will be tested on his true feelings for her.

This is the third book in the Kavanagh Legends series and a good read. Friendships and feelings are put to the test. The chemistry is pretty intense and Nora and Kane happen to be really good for each other.

Jennifer’s Review:

Nora tries to do it all. She goes to school, works with a youth program, has a job that she wish no one would ever know about, but one that pays her mother’s debts, and the last thing she needs is a man to add drama and take up time that she doesn’t really have. But Kane isn’t the obnoxious over the top lady killer she thinks he is. He actually wants to make her life easier, not complicate it.

Kane is focused on being the champion; it’s what he’s been training for and it’s all he wants. That is until he starts spending time with the girl he’s had his eye on forever…Nora. His priorities will get mixed up and when they get refocused some things get bumped out. But Kane has the wonderful Kavanagh clan at his back and they won’t let anything bad happen to him.

Nora and Kane are great! He’s super flirty and she has a mouth that’ll keep him on his toes. Their relationship is never boring that’s for sure.

The Kavanagh’s are an incredible family and every book I read with them in it only proves that point. They’re supportive and caring and nothing gets in their way when it comes to love and family. Becoming A Legend is another captivating and entertaining book in the Kavanagh Legends series. Can’t wait to read more!

There is, however, one phrase that was used so often that it was borderline driving me crazy…”the sound of the familiar voice”. Why can’t the person’s name be used? I mean after a while I was rolling my eyes every time it said that or something similar.

My Favorite Moment is when Kane calls dibs on Nora and what led to him finally making that call. That girl is a warrior!

Maid to Last

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Book Length (Est.): 225 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

From the author of the On the Line and Fire on Ice hockey romance series comes a sultry novel featuring a brooding NHL player who’s hell on skates—and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act.

Miranda: Even though I’m broke, putting myself through college, and working two jobs, I’m trying to make the best of it. But after I tell him off, instead of getting me fired, Jake requests me as his personal housekeeper. Then he starts flirting with me. Only I’m not flirting back . . . at least, I’m trying not to. Did I mention that he’s hockey’s hottest bad boy?

Jake: I’ve met the best woman at the worst possible time. Miranda is the fire to my ice—a sexy, charmingly candid spark who breaks down my walls and reminds me what it’s like to feel again. But I’m being forced to date my team owner’s daughter to keep my job, so I can’t be caught with Miranda. Still, we’re getting closer—until Miranda finds out about my “girlfriend.” And that’s not the only secret I’ve been keeping. But Miranda’s the one I want . . . even if she doesn’t believe me.

Jake Birch is a NHL hockey player that has a hot head and a demanding attitude. He is staying in a hotel until his apartment is ready for him to move into. He complains about everything. He has certain game day rituals that have to take place and it is bad luck if everything is not right.

Miranda works for everything that she has. She works two jobs and is going to school for a business degree. Working at the Dupont Hotel as a maid helps pay her rent. When she is assigned to the suites she runs into a gorgeous, arrogant and a body that will make you melt hockey player that is demanding soaps, water and liquor be in his room at tall times.

I have to say that I did not like Jake at all when I first started reading this story. He is very arrogant and things have to be his way at all times. I really enjoyed when he got into some trouble and his career was on the line. Then we meet the real Jake as he starts to have feelings for Miranda. The truth comes out and it is heartbreaking. She brings out the soft and romantic side of Jake that makes you fall in love with all sides of him. Miranda is a no nonsense girl and she calls Jake out on his crap.

This is the first book that I have read from this author. I really enjoyed this and hope to read more from her.

Miranda is a maid, a bartender, and a student. She’s just trying to get by and not starve while doing it. The last thing she needs or wants is a man in her life, but when an arrogant man in the penthouse suite request her to be the only maid to clean his room she’ll wonder his intentions. And not in a nice or silent way. She’s pretty much as straightforward as a person can be.

Jake is a hockey player who’s only staying in the hotel until his home is remodeled and if he can catch little glimpses of the hot maid while doing it then why not. But the more she blows him off the more he’s drawn to her. It drives him crazy that she’s not interested, which only make him try harder to get her to notice him. Only problem with that is there’s someone else who is actually very interested in him who he’s trying to get rid of.

As Jake realizes he likes Miranda’s simplicity his walls will slowly melt away, just as hers will fall with his kindness.

With an adorable, muscled, kind-hearted man and a sassy but sweet woman Hooked will have you just that…hooked. It’s humor and wittiness kept me flipping the pages, not to mention I kept waiting for them to do more than talk…which honestly takes forever. Be prepared to wait for the good stuff!

My Favorite Laughable Moment is when Jake meets her family and they start in on the stories. Nothing like pigtails and Wonder Woman to keep a man interested.

Review of Make It Hurt (Texas Bounty #2) by Jackie Ashenden

make-it-hurt

“Make It Hurt”

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Length (Est.): 189 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

The Texas Bounty series heats up as a female bounty hunter goes toe-to-toe with the tantalizing biker who never stopped loving her.

Nora Sutcliffe enjoys having tough guys at her mercy—preferably in handcuffs. The best fugitive recovery agent in the business, Nora always gets her man. But when her latest pursuit leads her to a notorious biker hangout, she’s reunited with “Smith”: the one man who was too hot for Nora to handle. Once upon a time, she was a rich girl and he was a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Now she needs his help, and she’ll do whatever it takes to get it.

Eight years ago, Smith let a pretty little Texas debutante break his heart. He picked up the pieces, went to hell and back with the army, then rode out of the darkness with a gang of outlaws at his back. The last thing he needs is a blast from the past like Nora, who has reinvented herself as a gun-toting badass with the stones to challenge him in front of the whole club. But if she thinks Smith will give up one of his brothers for a single night of pleasure, she’s in for a rude awakening.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Nora Sctcliffe has made a name for herself as a bad ass bounty hunter. She always gets her target. That is until her newest pursuit is protected by a motorcycle club. When she goes to a bar looking for him she discovers her past is staring her in the face. And not only does her body react unwillingly but he just happens to be the President of the MC that will not let her have her way.

Smith loves his club. They are his family and he will not let anyone come between that. Especially the one girl that broke his heart all those years ago.  He tries to strike a deal with Nora. One night in his bed and he will hand over what she wants. What he doesn’t understand is that one night will never be enough.

Nora and Smith have a past. She was the little rich girl that wanted to get her hands on the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. But when her dad found out about the relationship she did not stand behind Smith and defend him. Smith holds a grudge against the woman that hurt him and feels he need to get this woman out of his system. Maybe a night with her will cure his itch.

Smith made a promise to Nora that is she spends one night with him he will hand over the person that she is looking for. What Nora does not know is that is one promise that Smith has no intention of keeping.

This was a good read however I felt like the grudge that Smith was holding over Nora went a little far at times. He used it as control for what he wanted. Nora put the past behind her and anytime Smith was around her body betrayed her. The chemistry was great between them. They want to be with each other but their jobs could interfere with their happiness.

My Favorite Moment: You have to love a woman that will pull the trigger when she says she will!
