Review of Devil’s Own (The Devil’s Keepers) by Megan Crane

“He was her heroin. And he was right in her face.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 202 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Lara Ashburn hates bikers. She watched a motorcycle club destroy her hometown, bringing her brother down with it. That’s a life she put far in her rearview. So the last person she wants to see walking into her classroom is the top enforcer of the Devil’s Keepers. Big, mean, and gorgeous, all tattoos and leather, Chaser is everything Lara should avoid. Yet the insane chemistry sparking between them tempts her to break all the rules.

Ryan “Chaser” Frey has his hands full with a teen daughter in need of tough love, and he doesn’t have time for prissy teachers who want to tell him how to raise his kid. But Chaser never could resist a chick who gives as good as she gets. Lara is sexy as hell, and she’s not afraid of him. Plus, her links to a California club could provide the Devils with leverage against their enemies. But that would mean mixing business with pleasure—and risking the one woman Chaser can’t afford to lose.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Lara Ashburn is a teacher and when she has to contact a parent about one of her students she usually has normal parent teacher conferences. Not this time. She has to talk to a parent that is in the Devil’s Keepers MC. Not only does she hate bikers but this one is arrogant, big and not to mention gorgeous.

Ryan “Chaser” Frey is the top enforcer for the Devil’s Keepers MC. He does not have time to deal with teachers that keep calling and trying to tell him how to raise his daughter. The best way to deal with it is head on. Ryan does not expect to see a woman like Lara as his daughter’s teacher.

Lara has links to a MC in California that could really help the Devil’s Keepers out. As business gets mixed with pleasure Ryan and Lara have insane chemistry. Scorching hot chemistry at that! This is the third book in the Devil’s Keepers series  and I think they just keep getting better.

Review of Bang (B-Squad #2) by Avery Flynn

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 192 pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Freelance investigator Isaac Camacho has a weakness for bitchy blondes, and no one fits the bill quite like former beauty queen and gold digger Tamara Post. She’s sexy, feisty and on the run from a cult leader. Complicated women? Oh he loves them almost as much as he loves watching Tamara act like a total ice queen when he knows she burns white hot.

Calculating opportunist Tamara Post never cared what anyone thought about her–except for her sister. But when her sister dies, it’s up to Tamara to hide her teenage niece so the girl’s dictatorial father can’t marry her off to one of his disciples. The last thing Tamara has time for is Isaac–a man who flirts as well as he fills out a pair of worn jeans and whose stubborn determination to help makes it hard to act as if she’s really as cold as she appear.

When the bad guys find her, there’s only one person Tamara can depend on to help keep her alive until her niece is safe. But once the life and death chase is on, it’s not just their lives Tamara and Isaac are risking…but their hearts.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from Netgalley on behalf of Barclay Publicity in exchange for an honest review*

Tamara Post does not want anything to do with a man. She is still trying to hide her niece that she kidnapped from her crazy father. She has to watch her back at all times. Being part of the B-Squad should make her feel safe but the truth is she doesn’t want to bother them with her troubles.

Isaac Camacho is a freelance Investigator that does some side work for the B-Squad. His latest job is to get information on Tamara Post and keep her safe. Being known for having a weak spot for beautiful blondes the instant reaction he has to Tamara is nothing short of lust. Right?

Tamara was introduced in the B-Squad series one book as the crazy ex-wife that was trying to get money out of her ex-husband. Even though I was not crazy about her in that book she has won me over in this book. Her intentions are good and all she wants to do is protect her family. Since she is stuck with the one man in the world that drives her crazy this book takes you on an intense read. Being a part of the B-Squad means you have people that watch your back for you.

Isaac Camacho shouldn’t be noticing how good Tamara smelled.

One, it was weird. He was, after all, hustling through the club’s hectic kitchen with one super-sexy, kinda bitchy blonde—his favorite kind—for parts unknown. He should be noticing her ass under that swishy green skirt, not something lame like the fact that she smelled like peach tea spiked with bourbon.

Two, they were dodging steaming pots and hot plates because ugly-as-roadkill bounty hunter Archie Wolczyk was hot on their heels. Even if his former life as a Recon Marine hadn’t taught him the importance of survival, his stint in the county jail should have been more than enough to get an important lesson through even his thick skull: Being locked up in the pokey wasn’t his style.

So instead of getting distracted by her perfume, he needed to get them both out of here before he ended up separated from the love of his life—women, all of them—for whatever stretch of jail time the judge decided aiding and abetting a fugitive deserved.

“Left.” He pressed his palm against the small of her back, noting that his hand spanned almost the entirety of her waist, and guided her past the walk-in fridge and toward the employee break room.

She followed directions but shot him a quick glare over her shoulder.

Prickly little ice queen, wasn’t she?

As they hurried through the break room, he ignored the surprised faces of the staff members swapping out street shoes for clogs, but gave a quick wink to the sous chef who’d given him the after-hours all-access kitchen tour a few weeks ago. Stephanie? Stacy? Selena? Sarah. That was it. Then almost as fast as he and Tamara had rushed into the break room, they were out the reinforced steel door and into the fenced-in part of the parking lot. It stank of cooking grease and rotting food from the nearby pair of Dumpsters that had been broiling in the Texas heat for the past few days. He peeked over the privacy fence, scanning the lot for the bounty hunter’s backup. He spotted a couple getting out of a sedan, a valet sneaking a smoke, and a stray cat with one ear slinking between the cars.

Nothing of consequence stood between them and his truck, which was combat parked just outside the gate, ready as always for a quick getaway. He unlocked the doors with his key fob and opened the passenger door, then held out his hand to help Tamara up onto the running board. She was tall, but his oversized tires—perfect for off-roading—were no joke.

“No way.” She took a step back, as if she could still escape.

It was cute.

“We don’t have time for me to sweet-talk you, darlin’, so let me put it this way. You either get that fine ass of yours in the truck or I’ll expend the itty bitty amount of energy it would take for me to pick you up and flop you down in there.”

The start of a snarl curled up one side of her mouth and she took another step back. “Look, I appreciate you giving me the heads up about the bounty hunter, but I don’t know you and there’s no way in hell I’m getting in your truck.”

So, plan B it was.

“Okay.” He held up his hands in surrender. “You’ve got an excellent point there.”

The tension yanking her shoulders closer to her ears than they should be ebbed and her shoulders inched down a bit. That’s when he scooped her up in his arms, pivoted, and dumped her into the passenger seat all before she’d even gotten a chance to let out a yelp.

“Why you—”

“Heavy-handed asshole?” He grabbed the seatbelt and dragged it down across her chest. “Giant prick?” He clicked it into place, resisting the urge to let his fingers linger on the sliver of silky skin between the top of her skirt and the bottom of her shirt that had become exposed when she’d twisted in his arms. “Handsome devil?” He flashed his patent-pending, panty-melting grin. “Big, strapping stud who can protect you?”

She didn’t even flutter her long lashes. “Jerk.”

“It’s more succinct, I’ll give you that.” He shut the door and circled the front of the truck, walking a little more bowlegged than normal.

Book one of the Black Ops: Automatik series.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from Netgalley on behalf of Carina Press in exchange for an honest review*

Artem Diaz is a former Special Forces now working deep undercover for Automatik. His mission is to gain the trust of the Russians and lead his team to a major take down. Art also has a personal reason for wanting this done. Getting revenge for his father’s death.

Chef Hayley Baskov has been working her tail end off to get ahead in life and in her career. Having her ex take everything from her has her down in the dumps but will to do anything to get her dream to come true of opening a restaurant. Working in the right place at the wrong time will lead her into a good amount of cash and a deadly situation.

Art knows that he is putting Hayley in the middle of a time bomb and will protect her at all costs even if it means putting himself in harm’s way.

I am not a big fan of male writers when it comes to anything romance. However, Nico knocks this one out of the park. The chemistry and romance between Art and Hayley has you not being able to put the book down. The suspense has you on the edge of your seat. Knowing Art is finally opening up for the first time with someone melts your heart. I really, truly loved reading this book. Not to mention Art is a big dose of tattooed hotness!

My Favorite Moment: I loved when Mary gave Hayley advice on handling a weapon. Best advice I have ever heard.

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Suspense

Book Description/Synopsis:

She wants revenge… The Dirty Sinners Motorcycle Club is Em Connors’s only family, but she’s ready to risk everything–both her club and her life–for vengeance. Ten months ago, she was brutally attacked and her lover gunned down by a rival gang member. Now, she’s using her position as the Dirty Sinners president to track down the truth and exact her revenge.

He’ll risk it all…  With his partner murdered by a local motorcycle gang, Houston police officer Cade Jackson jumps at the chance to go back undercover and bring down the woman the department calls the Motorcycle Princess. But the sexy-as-hell leader awakens a hunger in Cade. Dark desires run deep–and he intends on teaching Em exactly how dirty he can be. But when his cover is blown, Cade must choose to uphold the law or protect the woman he’s grown to love…by going rogue.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Barclay Publicity in exchange for an honest review*

Cade Jackson is a Houston police officer that is working undercover to find out who murdered his partner. He has a job to go undercover with a local motorcycle gang. His goal is to bring down the president of the Dirty Sinners Motorcycle Club which just so happens to be a woman. If he can get in with the club, he can get to her.

Em Connor’s is the president of The Dirty Sinners Motorcycle Club. Being the only female president has its ups and downs. This is not really something she wanted for her life. When her father passed away he left her to be president and turn the club around into a legit money making profit. When her fiancé is murdered right before her eyes something inside of her changes. She will stop at nothing to seek down the murderer.

This was a very interesting read. A female president of a motorcycle club changes things. When she meets Cade for the first time she sees something in him that makes her feel safe. Not being able to act on her body’s responses proves to be difficult. She must keep her head in the game. What they don’t realize is they are after the same thing. Seek justice and move on with their life.

I really loved Em and Cade together. They seemed to forget all the pain that they are feeling. But with Cade feeling the pressure from the Police Chief he must make a choice. Bring her in to take the fall or find out who is responsible by going rogue.

My Favorite Moment: I love how this book keeps you on the edge. Never seen that coming!

He patted the motorcycle seat. “Hop on.”

“I’m nobody’s bitch. Especially some outlaw arrogant biker I just hired,” she warned. “What makes you so special that you can skip out on work?”

He chuckled despite himself. “Between you and me, I think the boss lady is sort of sweet on me.”

She stared at the bike seat, not even attempting to make a move.

Waving his ignorance flag, Cade hunched over the handlebars. “You want me to say I’m sorry? That I shouldn’t have kissed you yesterday? Not going to happen, Em. I’m not that good of a man.” He smiled. “One ride, and then I might consider kissing you again.”

“Clingy much?” she ground out.

“Got a rebellious streak, babe.” He slowly slid a glance down her body, knowing his needy feelings to own the heartbreaker biker chick were entirely stupid. But, shit, they were so damn powerful. Risky, even. “When I see something I want, nothing stops me from getting it.”

“You’re awfully confident for a mechanic, aren’t you? Let me remind you about something. Mechanics are a dime a dozen, so if you want to hit the road, you’d be doing us both a favor.” She shifted her weight, hip cocked in a prissy stance. “Hell, I’ll even buy your gas if that means you’ll ride off into the sunset. Like right now.”

She knew exactly the right buttons to push to piss him off. That kiss yesterday had been anything but forced. Yet if he called her bluff, went all Hulk on her, Em would run. Turn her cute button-shaped nose up at him and haul her sexy ass back inside. It probably made sense to apologize and try to get in her good graces, but Cade had never taken the easy route. And gaining Em Connors’s trust would be no different, since he wasn’t about to burn the man code and turn into some Hallmark greeting card guy. Instead he winked and revved the throttle on his bike. “Princess, I can tell you’re dying to know if I can handle this horsepower between my legs.”

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

This book picks up right where Sideways left us hanging. Olivia comes back into town after her hiatus for six months. She lets her friends know that she has returned and decides to go out for a drink. Seeing Gabriel for the first time should have been the happiest time of her life. That is drowned out by him having a female on his arms walking into the bar. Instead of listening like she should do she runs off again. Olivia has had some hard times and running sounds like the logical thing to do. That is until Gabriel finds her and demands that she quit running from him once and for all.

Gabriel has been lost since Olivia took off. Knowing she is back in town frustrates him and makes him happy all at the same time. He knows that he should give her some space but he is just too in love to let that happen. That and he never wants her to run away from him again. But once another tragedy hits and she calls him to be by her side he knows that without a doubt she loves him too.

I loved this book just as much as I did the first one. The characters are all intense and wants what is best for the other. When it’s time for Gabriel to need someone Olivia is there and will not leave his side. This is a very heartfelt read that I think everyone should enjoy.

I cannot wait to see where this series takes us.

My Favorite Moment: I love how Olivia explains the ring. No, I am not giving this one away, you must read to find out.

This is book 1 of a new series. Adult content; ages 18+

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Olivia Prescott has everything going for her. A career that she loves at the local fire department as well as a company that she runs with her two best friends. That is until she has a run in with her partner and he tries to kill her. Taking time off until she is released to go back to work she still has difficulties living a normal life. Maybe going back to work will help her overcome her “traumatic incident”. One of the first calls she receives back on the job and she has to deal with a very stubborn man.

“Crap, he has great eyes and a strong jaw, and the memory of his lips on mine are very difficult to forget. Who the hell wants to forget that? Oh, yes, me…because I’m an idiot. I just know it.”

Gabriel Hughes is CEO of Hughes International. He runs the family company with his two brothers. All being ex-military they do their job and do it very well. Gabriel has a minor traffic accident that has him completely drawn to the medic that is trying to bandage him up. He does know one thing for sure. He wants to know more about this woman.

Olivia things she is pretty much damaged goods when it comes to relationships. What she never expected is that someone is still after her. When someone breaks in to her home her brother decides that she needs to go away until he can find out what is going on. Asking a friend for a favor lands Olivia right into the Hughes brothers care. Being in another country seems to be fine until she realizes that the one “baby sitting” her is Gabriel and there just so happens to be a storm coming right at them.  While Gabriel is trying to keep Olivia safe, he realizes that he has someone after him as well.

I really enjoyed this book so much that I didn’t want to put it down at all. I would be at work and could not wait for a break or lunch so I could continue reading. I love how strong Olivia tries to be for herself and for her family. I fell in love with Gabriel’s character. He is a true alpha but when it comes to Olivia he is not sure if he should love her or run. Of course this book has a lot of emotions in it. What Olivia has gone through really pulls at the heart strings.

One thing is for sure, when you read the last paragraph of this book, you will be searching for the second book in the series Always. I know I did!

My Favorite Moment: I really loved when Olivia said her thoughts out loud.

“I’ve seen this man undress once before and suddenly, all I want to do is lick him from head to toe. “I want to lick you.”

He stops what he is doing and looks at me, surprised. “You do?”

“I said that out loud, didn’t I?”

But eventually the truth will come out. If all else fails he wants her to understand that he did not walk away by choice.

This was a very interesting read. I loved that this book was full of twists and turns that you did not see coming. The relationship between Josh and Mackenzie is very heartfelt. You feel the pain that she has had to live with for so long. Josh feels very guilty for the way that this all had to play out. Both still love each other dearly but they have to face the past before they can try at a future.

My Favorite Moment: I really liked when Drake told Josh where he was going and who he was protecting.
