Review of Chased (A Changing Krysset Novel #3) by Kate Carley

If you were bolder, we’d all be in a lot more trouble.

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 409 pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Sixteen years ago their lives were ripped apart…

Whisked away from her beloved home as a child and raised by her elderly relatives on the Pacific Coast, Kendall Aasgaard has learned to roll with the punches. She’s strong, resilient, and independent. But when Kendall finds herself in more trouble than she can handle, her survival instincts tell her to run. She turns to the person she trusts the most—Ben Montgomery.

Ben has it all—a thriving construction business, all the toys a bachelor could want, and a steady stream of brunettes to warm his bed. Love, however, is something Ben has permanently relegated to his past.

When playful, unreserved Kendall lands on his doorstep—or more accurately, in his bed—Ben realizes that his heart has no intention of following some arbitrary rule he’d instituted sixteen years ago. And if Kendall gets her way, she’d abolish that rule altogether to claim Ben’s heart for herself.

But as the threat to Kendall intensifies, Ben is faced with an adversary of his own who is determined to destroy Montgomery Construction.

Together, they’ll fight for a future that is more than the tragedy that binds them.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Kendall Aasgaard knows exactly what true lose feels like. When her family was murdered she was just a child. She was sent to live with relatives to live the life that she deserved and away from all the memories. Now that she is forced to go back to the small town she goes to the one person that she trusts the most.

Ben Montgomery has had a rough past. His childhood love was murdered in cold blood along with her family. Now he has a thriving construction business but the past is always in his mind. Not knowing how to move forward he leans towards alcohol when it gets bad. The one thing that might push him to the breaking point is coming home and finding Kendall in his bed.

Kendall is running from an abusive relationship. She knows she can get the help she needs in this small town but first she must let Ben and her cousin Cam know exactly what is going on. Cam can be really, really protective of Kendall. That includes letting Ben know exactly how he feels about Kendall being in his house. But when Kendall teaches Ben how to move on from the past a new kind of love develops between them. That is until the past comes back to haunt them both.

This was a very good read. I love all the twists and turns. Just when you think all is well more surprises are around the corner. I love the relationship that Kendall and her cousin have. He tries to be so protective but he is a teddy bear when it comes to her. I love how Ben and Kendall connect with each other. When a tragedy strikes at a young age you never know what the future holds.

My Favorite Moment: I absolutely fell in love with her belated birthday party.

Review of Kill Without Shame (ARES Security #2) by Alexandra Ivy

Never Give Up

Genre: Military Romance, Romantic Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 352 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Five brave military heroes have survived the hell of a Taliban prison to return home—and take on civilian missions no one else can. They’re the men of ARES Security. Highly skilled, intimidating, invincible, and one by one, tested again and again…
Lucas St. Clair’s prestigious family had a political future neatly planned out for him—one that didn’t include his high school sweetheart, Mia Ramon. Under their pressure, Lucas gave her up. But since surviving captivity, he’s a changed man—and a crucial member of ARES Security. When he discovers a dead man clutching a picture of Mia that bears a threatening message, his fiercest protective instincts kick in, and he knows he must go to her.

Mia has never forgiven Lucas for breaking her heart, and she’s convinced her feelings for him are in the past. But it’s soon clear that isn’t true for either of them. Now, determined to solve the crime and keep Mia safe, with his ARES buddies backing him up, Lucas will have to reconstruct the murder victim’s last days—and follow a lethal trail that leads right back to the fate of the woman he still loves…

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from Kensington Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Lucas broke Mia’s heart when he went off to the military leaving her alone to pick up the pieces. She rose above all and not only took over her father’s business, but had been steadily expanding it. Everything changed the moment Lucas walked back into her life with a determination she’d never known before.

Lucas had never gotten over leaving Mia, but he thought he’d done what was best for her. He didn’t want their different backgrounds turning her into someone she wasn’t. When an old friend winds up dead and he discovers it’s linked to Mia he’ll drop everything to protect her and find out what’s going on.

Mia is strong in every area of her life except when it comes to Lucas. No matter how strong and high her walls are he walks through them like they’re nothing. Lucas is almost funny in his determination. He’ll plant himself right in the middle of Mia’s life…and house…and not give a second thought to it until he knows she’s safe. Together they are a constant whirlwind of determination and passion.

Kill Without Shame is another fantastic book in the ARES Security series. It pulled me into the story and held me there until the final page.

My Favorite Laughable Moment is when Mia describes all the things Lucas’ ostentatious Porsche probably does.

Review of Consumed (A Changing Krysset Novel Book 2) by Kate Carley

Consume Me

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 308 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Thirty-seven minutes after midnight.

Like clockwork, an exquisite stranger sashays into his bar, orders up a shot of Jack Daniel’s, and stirs up his curiosity— not to mention his libido. Awaiting the arrival of this mysterious woman, night after night, has Ethan Bearbower growling in frustration.

Or maybe it’s her hasty retreat after slamming the whiskey that’s driving him crazy. Lord knows her choice of attire isn’t improving his condition in the least—one night she’s dressed like a shy, sweet nymph, and the next, a seductive dominatrix.

No wonder he’s going out of his mind.

But once Ethan uncovers her true identity, his inquisitiveness morphs into a protective streak he can’t seem to control. Consumed by this unusual fascination for a woman he’s just met and his need to keep her safe, Ethan struggles to reconcile his long-held beliefs with his mounting emotions.

Danielle is searching for the truth, and she’s not going home until she’s satisfied. But before she can unearth the answers to her biggest questions, she discovers a sexy man who just might derail her quest.

With explosive chemistry and tenderly whispered words of love, their relationship seems destined to last forever…until Danielle’s unrelenting search brings danger to her doorstep.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Danielle is wanting to know what happened to her sister. The best way to find out is to go where it happened and investigate yourself.  Staying in the same cabin as her sister and pushing the police department to find her sister’s killer might take more time than she thought. At night Danielle likes to go to the local bar and down a shot of Jack Daniels and take a look at the bartender.

Ethan is very curious about the new stranger in town. She comes into his bar like clock work every night. She takes a shot, participates in a little small talk and goes home. When the curiosity gets the best of him  he decides to follow her and see if he can figure out her story. When he sees where she is staying he knows he has to talk to her and get her to stay somewhere else, somewhere she will be safe.

Danielle is drawn to Ethan, she is not sure if she can trust him or not but when the police chief tells her he is a good guy and not a stalker like she thinks she decides to give him a chance. Being alone in a small town and trying to figure out who murdered her sister is very dangerous. She feels as if the police are not  doing all that they can to solve this murder. Danielle tries to get as many clues as she can but the closer she gets to the truth the more danger she is in.

This was a very good read. This is the second book in the Changing Krysset Novel. This can be read as a stand alone as well. I like that this book has a little mystery to it. Even though I love a great love story these characters do have an instant connection and it is beautiful. Once the truth starts to unveil Ethan has to try and save Danielle from the same fate as her sister.

I would recommend this to anyone that loves suspense, mystery and a little love on the side.

Blog Tour – Review of Beast (Righteous Outlaws #4) by Savannah Rylan

No Rest For The Wicked

Genre: Romantic Suspense, MC Romance

Book Length (Est.): 235 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Bentley “Beast” Harris became a Righteous Outlaw over a decade ago and never looked back. He gained the reputation as being the deadliest among the Outlaws, a skilled killer with no remorse or regrets. What his brothers don’t know is beneath the dark, death stare, and permanent scowl, he is drowning in regrets from a past he can never go back to.

Ryan Stanson grew up with dreams of becoming a police officer like her father, despite her mother’s objections. After a deadly mistake that took the life of her partner, Ryan is ready to leave the dangerous city life behind her and go home to Black Hills to start over. When Ryan takes a call to check out the local docks, she soon realizes that the small town she grew up in is more dangerous than the city she left behind, and Beast is at the center of it all.

Two damaged souls, refusing to forgive themselves for mistakes of the past, are brought together. With one on the right side of the law and the other on the wrong side, will what they share be enough to destroy the divide that keeps them apart? And will these two be able to come to terms with their pasts before they destroy themselves and everyone they love in the process?

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from Mark My Words Book Publicity in exchange for an honest review*

Beast has a past he doesn’t like anyone to know about. You’d think with how secretive he is about it that it would be filled with illegal things instead of the kind of things people would be proud of, but to him it’s nothing to be proud of and he’d like for it to stay right where it’s meant to be…in the past. The problem with that is Ryan can be one nosey little woman and Beast can’t help but succumb to her questioning.

“… You made me want you. Want something I swore I would never want again. I fought it. Every second I was with you, I fought it. But I can’t anymore. And I don’t want to.”

Ryan is supposed to be the Righteous Outlaws’ new link to the town law enforcement, but when Beast discovers she’s a woman and not a man things won’t go as planned. For either of them.

Ryan thought moving home and taking over for her father would be a walk in the park compared to the city, but she was wrong. With the Army trying to move into the Righteous Outlaws’ territory she’s basically walking into a war zone. One with murder, car bombs, and things she’s better off not knowing about.

“He tasted like a pungent mix of sin and desire that left me completely intoxicated and frantic for more.”

Beast is a story of the fine line between right and wrong, law and crime. It’ll dance the slim gray area between the two and leave you feeling the light amongst the dark.

The relationship between Beast and Ryan is as sweet as it is intense. Their fiery passion leapt from the pages. And the Righteous Outlaws remind us of how important family is and how there are no lengths too long when it comes to protecting them.

On a side note, I have noticed that some people say this can be read as a standalone, but I wouldn’t recommend it. There is an underlying story that continues throughout every book and you have to read them all and in order if you want to understand it.

My Favorite Moment: There comes a time when Ryan will stand up for what’s right and for the man who deserves it even if he doesn’t believe so himself and she’ll do it in front of the entire town.

YAY – Double Review!

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Fight For Me is a sweet and sexy adrenaline rush. From page one the characters drew me in and the story line held me captive. I absolutely could not put it down.

Natalie may look like the typical spoiled rich girl, but she’s not. She’s a prisoner in her own home. A home she’ll do anything to escape. The only thing she didn’t plan on was the lengths her father would go through to get her back.

Knox fought for X since he was a kid, but things aren’t what they once seemed and now he wants out. An out he’ll have to take, because it surely won’t be given.

From the moment Natalie and Knox meet it’s a non-stop suspenseful and intense journey. From being chased by her father and hunted by X’s men to trying to discover the truth about Natalie’s trust fund there is never a dull moment that’s for sure.

“I don’t want you going anywhere without me,” Knox said fiercely. “You’re mine to protect. I will defend you with everything I have.”

There is suspense, violence, and sex so if you don’t like that then you won’t want to read this, but if you do…definitely add it to your reading list!

My Favorite Moment: I was so deeply engrossed in this book that I didn’t even highlight anything, but I think when they finally come face to face with their pursuers and are forced to do whatever it takes to survive…now that was one hell of a moment.

Mindy’s Review:

*I received an ARC of this book free from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Fight for me is action packed from the moment you start reading.

Natalie is not your typical rich kid. She is trapped in her father’s life ever since she lost her mother. She feels more like a puppet on a string. Deciding enough is enough she runs away from the only life she knows. What she was not prepared for was her father’s employees hunting her down so fast.

Knox is an underground MMA fighter that never loses a fight. Being controlled by a man that he once thought of as a father wants him to throw a fight. Knox just does not have that in him. Deciding he has to get out of the life might just cost him his life.

Knox runs into Natalie when she is fighting for her life. Having the ability to help her he decides it is best for them to stay together to stay safe. When Natalie discovers some secrets in her family she has to decide how she is going to proceed with getting her father away from the family money that belongs to her. Knox has people out for him as well and they both have targets on their heads.

This was a fun read for me. The action that is in this book has you unable to put it down.

My Favorite Moment: I agree, I was so into this book that I do not have a favorite moment. I loved the entire book.

Review of Save Me (The Donovan Family #7) by Margaret Watson

Save Me

Don’t worry, I got you.

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 173 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

State’s Attorney Livvy Marini and Detective Ryan Ward have many reasons to dislike each other. Starting with Livvy’s sister once arresting Ryan. But when Livvy’s boss assigns her to interview Ryan about a case, they have to put aside their animosity and work together to keep Ryan’s former partner in prison.

Anson Bates is desperate to get out of jail. Livvy and Ryan unearth information that will destroy his chances for bail, but the more they uncover, the more risky their job becomes. Working to keep a dangerous criminal off the streets, Livvy and Ryan go from adversaries to friends. Then lovers. But when Livvy’s life is threatened, can Ryan reach her in time to save her?

And once she’s safe, can he save himself?

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Two unlikely people fall for each other in Save Me.

As State’s Attorney, Livvy is only trying to do her job, but when the person she’s assigned to work with is the same man who made her sister’s life a living hell she isn’t exactly excited about the prospect. Now if only her body could get on board with her mind. She seems strong and tries to be independent, but it doesn’t make much to made her rely on someone she didn’t think she could trust.

“Never thought I’d have to beg you to have sex with me.”

Ryan was once arrested by Livvy’s sister and once upon a time he thought she’d crossed the line, but after his partner got arrested he was no longer sure of anything he’d done had been the right thing. He’d apologized to Cilla, but only time would tell if Livvy would forgive him too. And the longer he has to work with Livvy the more he truly wants that forgiveness…and much much more.

You have to read the Donovan Family books in order because this storyline continues from Cover Me, which was by far my favorite in the series. Any of those lingering questions I had, where things didn’t come to a complete close, they’re finished in Save Me. There’s bad guys, hit men, and tailing cars…not a dull moment at all and yet there aren’t really that many memorable moments.

My Favorite Moment: I enjoyed the teasing that went on between Ryan and Livvy. It made their relationship that much more interesting.

“Got news for you, babe.” He pulled up to the curb at the Daley Center. “The only kind of pillow talk we’ll have will be ‘yes. More. That. Right there. Oh, God’.”

Review of Protect Me (The Donovan Family #6) by Margaret Watson

Protect Me

Let’s Play Pretend

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Length (Est.): 329 Pages

Book Description/Synopsis:

Police officer Mia Donovan is studying for the detective’s exam when her captain offers her an assignment – be Finn O’Rourke’s personal bodyguard for the next three weeks. He’s in town to film a movie, he has a stalker, and the threats are escalating.

Mia isn’t interested – she’s focused on the looming exam. But her captain convinces her that successfully protecting Finn will look very good on her record when promotion decisions are made. So, reluctantly, she takes the assignment.

Finn isn’t the arrogant, egotistical actor Mia expected. There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the ‘most hated man in America’, Finn’s nickname since he cheated on his girlfriend, a beloved pop star.

But his stalker is lurking and the threat is escalating. Although Mia’s feelings for Finn are growing, her job is to protect Finn, not fall in love with him.

Jennifer’s Review:

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Mia wants to make Detective and when a protection job is dangled in front of her, even one she really isn’t interested in, she’ll accept it in order to better her chances. She may be the baby Donovan sister, but she’s just as good as her brothers and she wants to prove it, if to nobody else except herself. She spunky, determined, and quite feisty.

Despite what everyone else says Finn is a good guy. His only focus is to get his career back on track and untangle himself from his ever-growing crazy stalker. He’ll need Mia to help him with that…and he’ll enjoy every second of her protection.

The chemistry between Finn and Mia has its ups and downs. There’s definitely a spark there, well more like an explosion waiting to happen, but between their jobs and the stalker they have several what in the world are y’all doing moments.

“What are we going to do about this, Mia? he murmured.

“Do about what?” She needed a moment to get her brain working again.

“This polite, rational discussion we just had. Jesus, Mia, what do you think?”

“It wasn’t real. It was a ruse. A way to hide from the women following us.”

“Not real? Really?” He spun her around to face him. “I didn’t thing you were a coward, Mia Donovan. Yeah, whatever it was that exploded between us surprised the hell out of me, too. But that…that kiss was as real as it gets.”

The storyline in Protect Me is interesting, the stalker adds a little suspense with a side of creepy, and the ever-present Donovan’s add that little extra something I’ve grown to love throughout this series. There is however something that’s a little off, maybe it was the ending, or just me, but it wasn’t my favorite Donovan Family book.

My Favorite Moment: The first time they had to act like an actual couple in order to hide was more than they bargained for.

“Should I actually kiss you?” he murmured into her ear. “Like I mean it? Or do you want me to nibble at your neck and your ear? Play with you, get you worked up a little, before moving on to the main event?”
